Your categories are pretty random and comparing these two games is a bit weird, but whatever.

1> Sales

I think GTA4 is going to be the worst selling GTA after the series went 3d, but it'll still be on a completely different scale to Resident Evil.

2> Graphics/framerate/resolution

Both look like they've got high quality HD graphics to me. Don't really care about this stuff.

3> Features

I don't like the style of the GTA games, but there's undeniably a lot more to do in them than Resident Evil games.

4> Pushing the envelope

As in doing new stuff that the previous parts didn't? GTA4 is doing a lot of new stuff, but RE5 looks like a carbon copy of RE4 with HD graphics and slightly more objects on the screen at once. Then again we know a lot about one game and very little of the other, so it's a bit early to say.

5> Gain new fans

I don't see either game attracting many people that didn't care for the previous parts.

Sales GTAIV

Everything else, RE. Even the old RE was a far better series than GTA, imo.
