Forums - Nintendo - What if NX is ... a smartphone?

Interesting. But I wonder, will they be able to sell on that phone their expensive (compared to the cheap appstore/plastore) games?

If it's high-quality, ad-free content, why not?

Basically to everyone who'd buy a Nintendo handheld you say 'hey you can use this as a phone too'. So you have the dedicated handheld users already in place. Some percentage of everyone else would experiment with paying extra $ for a high-profile release. The big appeal here is that real handheld gaming becomes far more accessible to a much larger audience. Even the biggest 3DS fans probably carry their phone around more than their 3DS. This hardware strategy allows you to get even closer to them -- and closer to a whole new audience who haven't given handheld gaming a fair shake.

And if it's a device that beam HD gameplay to TV screen - that's all the more appealing to everyone, and justifies the higher price point on content.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
