Hiku said: 1.) I would prefer to have the console and play the handheld games on my TV, but it will depend on the price. If I find that the hardware is just not worth the asking price, but the handheld is, then I'll go with the handheld. I will not buy both though. If they have the same games, I will chose one. 2.) I only have a 3DS. I bought it because it had the sequel to 999 (Zero Escape: Virtues Last Reward), and also a new Phoenix Wright game, and obviously there would be a new Pokemon, and I liked the look of Fire Emblem: Awakening, and I expected it to have some rpgs as well down the line. Didn't turn out quite as I expected on that front, but there were a few, like Bravely Default and Bravely Second. I wanted to buy a WiiU and I planned to in 2014. I even bought Mario Kart 8 before I had the console. I was that sure that I would get it. (Also because it came with a code for a free game of choice, one of which were Zelda Wind Waker HD. And the code had to be registered before the end of July, I think.) However, I also expected there to be a Smash bundle, or at least some kind of price cut or deal during xmas. There was none. Nor the next year, etc. For a console with only 32GB of storage, which charges you $50 extra between the 8GB version and the 32GB version, and with a standard controller that I did not plan on using to play Smash, forcing me to buy a new controller as well, on top of getting nearly no third party support, while even some of Nintendo's own big franchises were missing (No Metroid, F-Zero, and Zelda still hasn't come out), I didn't feel like $350 was a justified price for it, considering I was only interested in 4 games for it. |
1) This is pretty much how I feel the general public would go about it. I'm polling the people on here knowing full well that they are probably more into gaming than the average consumer, and this site in general is more into Nintendo than.... Well, pretty much everywhere. Most people would probably consider where their gaming needs are met and just go with that and save them a few hundred dollars to get a redundant experience.
2) There in lies the problem with Nintendo, they needed to go about making more demanding projects. It seems for the most part they played it BEYOND incredibly safe, save for Smash and Xenoblade (1st party) as well as Zelda which you have already mentioned is still coming out. I think if they would have followed through on merging with developers and acquiring some this gen would have been far better off. Not buying Atlus still makes me feel a little sick, and while their games themselves may not sell in the millions, the developers are freaking AMAZING at making games. Their talents could have easily been used for helping develop a game like Metroid, ect.
