Yes.  I never had a Wii and I'm planning to buy a Wii U.  Once it get all the Zeldas it is going to get and it is a lot cheaper.

I have a Wii U... my last Nintendo console was a NES... so yeah, i mean no, i mean, w/e u were asking, all the contrary

My answer is "Yes, I never had a Wii".

I had every console from Nintendo except for the Wii, and went full PC for seventh gen.
To keep things short, the Wiimote didn't have enough buttons to convince me that my gaming tastes would be served adequately, so I stayed away.
The backwards compatibility of the Wii U was a big plus for me.

Platforms: Wii U, New 3DS, PS4, PC

currently playing:
 -Yoshi's Wooly World
 -Pokemon X
 -Fire Emblem Fates

Zone: Europe (Germany)

I have a WiiU and I never owned a Wii. I always loved nintendo consoles but the game cube dissapointed me and I never cared for the Wii games. The only reason I got the WiiU is because I got it fairly cheap to begin with and Mario Kart 8 looked awesome. Which it is.

I own a Wii, have owned all Nintendo consoles, and I even owned the Philips CDI. My brother bought the Zelda games for it, so he wound up getting it when he moved out. I really didn't take any of the old game consoles from my childhood home so all I currently got is a Wii, DS, Wii U, and 3DS (also got a PSP, PS3, Xbox 360, and Xbone). The only current gen platforms I don't own are Sony's. Will get those when they hit $200 and a bundle I want.

That would be my case, I own a Wii U but never bought a Wii. To be fair, thanks to its BC I'm enjoying Wii games more than the Wii U ones.

Never owned a Wii, but I do now have a WiiU which I bought Christmas 2013. Up until that, it was all PS2/360 for me. Got the WiiU for Super Mario 3D World, Wind Waker HD, and DKCTF.

Besides Zelda, Smash Bros, DKC, and Wii Sports - the Wii didn't have that really that much that ever interested me.

I had low expections for the WiiU, but I was pleasantly surprised with what I got. The WiiU pulled me back into gaming and gave my wife and I better local coop experiences than we really ever had with the 360. And oddly, a number of 360 games I could never bring myself to try, I tried out on the WiiU and loved (Splinter Cell, Batman, Mass Effect, NFS, Injustice).

I feel more excited as a born-again Nintendo fan rather than being one in a crowd of Xbox fans buying variants of the same Lego and COD games.

Previous nintendo home console was the N64.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

The funny thing is I bought my Wii after the Wii U, I know you can play Wii games on the Wii U but I was looking for a nunchuck and a wiimote and one store in Mexico had a cheap Wii bundle (almost cheaper that buying the wiimote and nunchuck separately) so I bought it. Most of my Friends and family that owns a Wii U had or have a Wii with the sole exception of a friend of mine that bought the Wii U after playing Splatoon and it was her first home console ever.

Well sort of. I was debating whether it should just be the Wii or all previous Nintendo consoles, but since Wii has the highest installbase with 10x more that Wii U I thought that alone would be interesting enough. Even if you didn't get a Wii I'd say you could still be considered a diehard fan as there's many ways to show it.

I actually think it would be higher since by the same token you can have a Wii and a Wii U but still not be a diehard fan.
