Forums - Sony - Blu ray question

ok so im not really a big movie guy....i bought the ps3 for the games (the very few there are lol sry) but i bought I Am Legend yesterday for blu ray and watched it on my ps3 on my 42" flat screen hd lcd 1080p tv....and while watching the movies the black lines were still on the top and bottom of the picture, reducing the pictures size.....now i tried all different settings on the ps3 and some on my tv but coulndn't get the picture to fit the whole screen....the only way i got it to fit the whole screen was when i hit zoom on my tv remote which enhanced the picture to fit the whole screen, but when in zoom mode it blew up the picture too much that it cut out some of the left and right sides of the movie....so my question is....is this just that i don't have the right hookup or is it just the movie and all movies have different options or what? cause i hate watching a movie with those black spaces on top and bottom

that pisses me off too, if you find a solution your my hero!

youre tv is 16:9 (1.78:1)

while movies are filmed at (1.85:1) to (2.39:1)

haha...has it happened with more than 1 movie with u with blu ray?

was the movie widescreen?

I believe there is no such TV with a 2.39:1 ratio.
Sucks, I know, I hate those black bars too.

There is widescreen and then there is really wide screen lol to put it shortly your tv is fine just movies vary in their format and there is no standard they follow.

 everybodys tv is either 4:3 (1.33:1) or 16:9 (1.78:1)

Its not youre tv.  Its just life movies are shot at a different aspect ratio and will therefore require being displayed with bars at the top and or sides.  To get rid of the bars you can use youre tvs different zoom functions but keep in mind that they will distort and degrade quality

it says video-- 1080p high definition 16x9 2.4:1 whatever that means
