Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo FY2015 Q3 Results (3DS: 3.6m, WiiU: 1.87m, Profit)

Nintendo is scheduled to release the results of the third quarter of their new fiscal year tomorrow and this thread is to have all the information released by them on a single place.

First of FY2015 Q3 is the period between October 1st 2015 and December 31st 2015, all the data released by Nintendo themselves is shipped data, or in other words that of sold to retailers.

What to look forward too?

-Hardware and software results for Wii, WiiU and Nintendo 3DS (total ammount of hardware and boxed software moved)

-Results for certain games, Nintendo released nothing noteworthy on Q3 so the only results will be for old games, Super Mario Maker, Splatoon, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, etc.

-If Nintendo indeed plans to launch the NX this calendar year then we might hear some early details here, be wary though, as that might be as an answer of an investor's question.

-A lot of stupid questions by investors.

Nintendo will be releasing their Q3 documents after trading stops, 15:00 local time in Japan (14 hours as of the writing of this), the meeting with investors will take place the day after at 10:00 local time in Japan (33 hours at the time of this writing.)

I honestly don't expect NX news here. That being said, I think they need to say something real, other than "we won't be talking about NX today." That's all anyone paying attention to this meeting will want to know about. NX and mobile. They can't keep pushing it back any longer. It's 2016. Their time is up.

I think NX will be revealed, with its real name, in the February Direct. This will be the first Direct in the "new" format. That can't be a coincidence. I also think that's where My Nintendo will be properly explained as it is core to NX and will be launching the month after.

Exciting times.

Tag. I'd like to know how many amiibos they have sold, and their proportion on the total revenue.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I agree with you. While they certainly won't "reveal" NX at this meeting, I do expect them to at least provide some sort of a timeframe for when we can expect it to be revealed. Preferably more info than that, but at a minumum we should know when to expect the NX reveal to take place.

WSJ earnings preview... http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2016/01/31/nintendo-earnings-what-to-watch-10/

A statue of Nintendo Co.'s7974.TO +0.60% video-game character Mario stands at the Nintendo Game Front showroom in Tokyo, Japan, in February last year. The company reports third-quarter earnings Tuesday.
Bloomberg News

Nintendo Co. is scheduled to release its third-quarter earnings after the market closes in Tokyo on Tuesday. Here’s what you need to know:

EARNINGS FORECAST: The Kyoto-based videogame company is expected to report Y33.2 billion ($273.8 million) in profit for the October-December period, according to a FactSet poll of 14 analysts, up slightly from Y31.8 billion in the same period a year earlier.

REVENUE FORECAST: Analysts expect Y252.6 billion in revenue for the three-month period, down 6.9% from Y271.5 billion a year earlier.

WHAT TO WATCH:

SLUGGISH SALES: Sales of its 3DS handheld device and software likely slowed further, analysts say, adding it will be difficult for Nintendo to achieve its guidance of Y50 billion in operating profit this fiscal year. The company’s share price is now around Y17,000 apiece, but analysts say the shares are likely to slip, although Nintendo won’t lower its guidance.

MIITOMO: Nintendo and its partner DeNA Co.2432.TO +3.19% plan to launch their first smartphone game Miitomo in March, and Nintendo chief Tatsumi Kimishima is likely to provide more details at an earnings conference. DeNA will report its earnings on Friday.

AMIIBO: Analysts partially blame Nintendo’s soft sales on supply shortages for Amiibo – chip-equipped figurines that communicate with its games – especially in the U.S. Investors will seek more details on production plans for Amiibo, including if the company plans to release new figurines, cards and stuffed dolls.

NX: Anything new about its coming videogame system code-named NX is unlikely at the earnings conference because Nintendo would want to focus on Miitomo first. Nintendo has declined to say when it will kick off its promotional campaign, but analysts expect more details in June and a product launch toward the year-end shopping season.

DIRECT: Mr. Kimishima said last year the company would overhaul Nintendo Direct, its online video site that delivers company news and product announcements directly to its fans. He may provide updates on this as well.

SURPRISE: Nintendo has a history of making surprise announcements at its earnings calls. It isn’t rare for Nintendo to announce new initiatives at an earnings call as it did for the partnership with theme-park operator Universal Parks & Resorts, a unit of Comcast Corp.'sCMCSA -0.48% NBCUniversal.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

A couple of things:

The Wii U has not had one, non holiday, 1 million shipment number, and only 4 overall. The Wii had 21 quarters in a row of at least 1 million shipped in a quarter.

If I'm not mistaken, this will be the 5th year in a row where Nintendo has failed to achieve their year end targets for 3DS/Wii U shipments shipments.

I'm mainly curious to see how Splatoon officially performed. Would be nice to get some updates on older games like Majora's Mask 3D tho.

It's nice to hear analysts expect 200m+ profit for the last quarter; Nintendo seems to be back to stability since they have been profiting on the last quarters as well.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Tag.Hope they talk about XCX(a game that is noteworthy for their Q3) and give the sales numbers for it.Other than that, im expecting more news on the mobile front. We will see

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=241866&page=1

The only noteworthy games are the ones that sell more than a million units btw.

XCX isn't part of that club.
