Forums - Politics - Is Banning Muslims From Coming to the USA Temporarily a Good Idea?

No it is a stupid idea anyone of any race can be muslim. Also discrimation against any religion in the US is against the LAW.

Can't discriminate against a race or religion, it goes against what America was founded on.

Banning immigration from third world countries, however, is a thing that should have happened a long time ago.

Not a terrible idea considering many of them in the US are all for Shariah and willing to set women and gay rights back to the 1400's. While they're  at it, get rid of the Westboro Baptist Church members.

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

Forget whether it's a good idea or not. It's an unimplementable idea. You basically have to ask every non-US citizen to declare their religion at the time the arrive (from a visa waiver countries) or when they apply for a visa. And that is arguably illegal to do under US law. And of course people will lie, especially the people who would want to enter the USA to do harm.

Next to this ban Muslims from coming idea, Trump's Mexican wall idea sounds sensible and well though through.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe Trump has ever given a concrete or even solid plan as to how he'd fix our immigration issues other than "build a wall and make the Mexicans pay for it," which is so hilariously vague even for a campaign promise.

If there is an immigration problem at all. I heard that what is actually happening at the moment is a net migration into Mexico. Therefore there is negative immigration across the Mexico border right now. So why does there need to be any policy or regulation at all with respect to current movement of people. If there's a problem it is with the fact that there are lots of people illegally living in the USA and that's something which should be fixed by a variety of methods from granting temporary work Visa's and pathways to full citizenship and a few deportations. Not limited to people from Latin America of course.

Naturally a lot of people who are living in the USA unlawfully would want to be given lawful status, but they are too afraid to put their hand up and try to follow a path for lawful residence. So the first thing that needs to happen is to remove the fear, and you could do that by saying everyne who has a paid job consisting of at least 20hrs a week automatically gets a 1 year working Visa. If they have dependant children they get a 2 year working Visa. Then the process of assessment for longer term residency can begin. And the criteria for long term residency should be reasonably low. If somene's been living and working productively in the USA for several years and has no criminal record then there is no economic or social benefit to the country in sending them away.

No. This is essentially convicting people of thought crime, and that is a horrible horrible horrible idea.

There should be an efficient and thorough vetting process that should apply to people regardless of their religion.

How do you propose doing this? Do we also deport all of the Muslims in the country and make it illegal? So, who cares about the constitution right?
Fictional meeting of how this goes down.
Customs agent: Are you Muslim?
Muslim guy: No
Customs agent: You look Muslim to me.
Muslim guy: Well... I'm not.
Muslim person gets into country.

It is. I looked it up. It sounded familiar to me but I just couldn't remeber who it was that said it. I suck at quotes
