Forums - Gaming - Do you prefer gore/blood in your games?

If it is tastefully done. Even a game like Condemned or Manhunt can be considered tasteful in my mind though.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I never played Manhunt, but I have the impression that the whole story and the game itself are an excuse for the gore.

MORE BLOOD THE BETTER

I believe that if blood and gore creates an atmosphere, suits the themes of the game, and suits whats happening in the game, then sure go for it, it will probably create a better experience for the player. Some games need it or the game just won't feel right and will take away the experience from the player.

I have yet to play a game and say "Wow, that blood spray was awesome," or "This game would suck without blood."

I don't think blood is necessary to a game at all.  It's either there or it's not; either way I don't really care.

Depends on the game, and then yes, in moderation. I'm not a big fan of it, but sometimes it's awkward if it's not there. Like in Red Steel, there wasn't any blood at all, whether you shot or cut your enemies.. that was just weird, especially for a game called "Red" Steel.

Like how the North American version of Xenosaga II had the blood removed. Watching a character talking about how she has to put the blood back into her mother's body, without any blood is weird. Escpecially since she is supposed to be holding some in her cupped hands.

Have you not seen the trailers for Killzone2, now that bloodspray is awesome. Go play Gears or UT3 with no blood, they would suck.

as long it doesn't get too nasty with a lot of blood and gore
otherwise Im fine with them

I think it'd be stupid to not have it in certain games that should otherwise have it. A game that hasn't been hampered (in my opinion) without blood is Battlefield 2 (substituted by a puff of smoke). My problem is when it's so over the top, it looks silly. While a very old example, take Dino Crisis where when you shoot something, there are GIANT chunks of blood.

i prefer blood if done right. Look at Klilzone 2's blood effects That is the best blood effects i have ever seen.
