It'll get far but not very far. There's a point where all the EA fans have the console.

Assuming EA could still make a Madden and FIFA game, even if they'd no longer have exclusive rights, then they'd probably do pretty well with a home console. The ecosystem of those games should not be underestimated. They're the primary draw to videogames for millions of people.

As for the rest of the line-up, EA has a lot of titles to offer, though they'd have to bring more content to market.

Madden and Fifa are tiny compared to the likes of Call of Duty

an EA system would fail. they work as a third party company, their revenue would be GONE if they stopped selling software on other consoles. again, sports is all they really have to offer

And CoD has what to do with this?

Anyway, as far as I can tell, EA would immediately have better first party support than Microsoft.  Sports is far from all they have to offer.

If they could maintain their monopoly over sports licenses, then yeah they'd probably sell more than Nintendo or MS.

Sports are a big deal.

If they couldn't obviously not, but really this topic is really worth discussing in that case as it's more a "no duh" answer.

Kinda does open the interesting question though ... "what if" the pro sports leagues (FIFA, NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB) worked together to make a console platform where they then shared profits from. They'd probably make a nice buck.

Why would buy a console just for Fifa and other EA Sports if you can buy a PS4/X1 with the same games and more?

fifa an co wont be avauilable anymore on ps4/xbox1.

Many people dont care about "normal gaming, they just want fifa. its really very, very popular at least in germany.

Microsoft and Sony cannot make NFL games right now. There is no first party clause in that deal. That was baseball. 2k owned the rights to third party baseball games, which is why EA stopped making MVP Baseball games at the MLB level and moved to NCAA for a short time. That's how we got The Show every year.

The clause in the Madden deal is that EA cannot make the games exclusive to any platform. So if EA made their own console and made Madden exclusive to it, Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo could all make officially licensed NFL games. BUT... EA also owns the NFLPA exclusive license. So these other games from the other companies would have real teams and logos and stadiums.. but the players names would all be made up.

They'd surely lose a lot of their licenses though, as these deals were signed with the expectations that there would be three+ platforms of sales to rely on. I think the console could still sell pretty well though. EA releases a ton of games. And even if other companies started making football and soccer games, the Madden and FIFA names alone are still worth a lot. And they make the only NHL game around. And they could easily bring back MVP Baseball.

They'd have virtually every genre covered with known quality franchises and they routinely try new stuff.
