It doesn't matter that the PS4 hit the 10 million mark faster than Wii.

It doesn't matter that the PS4 hit the 20 million mark faster than Wii.

What matters for you is that this exact moment we are talking Wii was ahead by 3 million.

I guess you can use that to explain the PS4 situation a bit. But the Vita is getting a lot of support from Japanese devs, yet is nowhere near the 3DS in marketshare. The irony is that the 3DS is mostly supported by Nintendo and a few Japanese devs, but the Vita seems to have every Japanese dev onboard, except Sony.

What makes you think the PS4 isn't doing well in Japan? It's not that far behind the WiiU, and the WiiU had a whole year on it. Part of the problem is that japanese developers make every PS4 game available for PS3 as well. Once they stop supporting last gen so much, sales should really start escalating.

 

The Xbox One is the console selling 50 units a week in Japan :P

Yeah the Wii vs PS4 comparison is funny because the ps4 started off better and it will end better.  But all that matters is the middle where the Wii goes ahead :D

 

I'd just like to but in on the other conversation.  There's no doubt the 3DS is doing exceptionally in Japan.  But smartphones are hurting the handheld market. 

 

The only reason the 3DS will match the DS is because it took some of the PSP market which covered it's decline,  plus it didn't launch when mobile was totally dominant like it is now. 

 

So if games like monster hunter stayed on psp and Vita instead of DS it would be around 15m now instead of 20m. 

 

I'd be shocked if the NX handheld makes it over 20m in Japan with the increased competition from mobile.  Maybe if it can get another few million from the vita/PSP fanbase.

It's all about being efficient and cost effective. Sony isn't abandoning Japan here at all. This isn't 1950. It's 2016. If Sony was abandoning Japan there would literally be nothing in the pipeline from Japan, and there's tons coming. Article is fucking non-sense.
