Forums - Nintendo - Prediction: no new Nintendo home console this year (safe bet)

The controller, which is basically ''the Wii'' was announced at TGS along with some games. In E3 we just saw how the box would like along with more games.

So in other words it debuted at TGS.

By that rationale, it technically debuted at E3 2005... if you count Iwata holding up a box and saying, "The console will only be about 3 DVDs thick", lol.

And no, games were not shown at TGS, at least not publicly.  So yes, the "Wii" debuted at E3 2006 and launched the same year.

Actually it's by your rationate that the console technically debuted at E3 2005 because you seem to ignore the controller which is the main thing about the console (and the whole mystery that was covered ''it will change the way you play games''). Whatever. Here is what Wikipedia says if we want to look at another source.

''Nintendo first spoke of the console at the 2004 E3 press conference and later unveiled it at the 2005 E3. Nintendo CEOSatoru Iwata revealed a prototype of the controller at the September 2005 Tokyo Game Show.[25] At E3 2006, the console won the first of several awards.''

So by no means you can say that the system debuted at E3 2006. But if you want to continue believe that, fine by me.

What you say actually makes sense. It can go either way. If I was Nintendo I'd do as you described but I'm not Nintendo and they make a lot of mistakes.

Actually, I can say that, beause it did.  Showing the revolution controller pre-E3 is more than they've given us so far with NX, I agree, but it was by no means a debut of the Wii regarding demonstrative showings of the controller's functionality with its actual software.

Because they have only 12.5 million consumers left. Some of them may not even buy another Nintendo console. Sony has an audience of at least 80 million people. Of course they can sell a product much faster and tell people much faster what it is. Look, 3 years after the Wii U launch there are still people who don't know what it actually is.

You do realize the Nintendo DS was announced, shown, and launched within like 9 months right?

The 3DS also was announced, unveiled, and released to market in under 12 calendar months.

People know what the Wii U. They just don't want one. Nintendo can sell it for another 5 years and there still will be many people who don't want one.

You do realize that DS and 3DS are both handhelds? And no home consoles? And that Nintendo was always more successful in the handheld business than in the home console business?

And if I'm looking in my local stores here in Germany I see many people who don't know what Wii U is. Some of them still think it's a Wii accessoire. So no, many people don't know what it is. They would maybe buy if they would know what it is.

It'll be the NX "handheld" but you'll be able to play games on your TV with a Wii U/PS4 through cloud streaming.

I actually would not be surprised if a NX Cloud service that lets you basically play NX games on a Wii U, iPad, PC, AppleTV, etc. (and yes, maybe even a PS4) is one pillar of the NX platform.

Just buy the NX controller and either have one of the above hardware, a smart TV, or buy a cheap NX streaming receiver and you can play NX games if your internet connection is good enough.

Like the move to make mobile games, this could be one of the several huge changes coming for Nintendo in the next few years.

Lol. That's bullshit. Never going to happen.

Nintendo is not Sony. They can't reach a huge audience in less than a year if they first show it off and launch it this year. Launch will probably be as silent as the Wii U one's.

You mean, like the Wii... which debuted and launched the same year?

Eh, better do better research next time, bro.

Announced: E3 2004

First shown: E3 2005

Launched: November 2006

But I can't help you if you don't even bother to research facts.

By your half ass logic Nintendo has 100 million consumers. Just because ps3 did 80 doesn't mean they have 80 million listing now! And also just because wiiu sold 12.5 doesn't mean that's all there audience, did you forget the 3ds numbers?

We are still talking about home consoles, not handhelds.

Thanks. And yes, their biggest recent mistake is called "Wii U". But they need to change something if they want to be successful again. I expect them to do this with their next platform. That's also why I expect them to not release it too fast. They'll take their time and deliver a product that can actually compete on the market.

It's ironic that you're such a stickler for facts when your timeline conveniently leaves important ones out, lol.  I fixed it for you though.  :)

So then...

NX

Announced: 17th March 2015
First Shown: E3 2016
Launched: Autumn/Winter 2016

Fits in the same to me, actually that would be a couple months more than the Wii had between first announced and launch.

Dude, where have you learned maths? Your teacher should be imprisoned :p

If you use that pattern on NX then the results are:

Announced: March 2015

First shown: E3 2016

Launched: November 2017
