Forums - Sales - Game-software revenues to grow from $90B in 2016 to $115B by 2020

Thanks for posting Spurgeonryan,

This is a very interesting article and I think the main point can be summed up using the quote below

-“The games market changed dramatically in the last 5 years, with the rise of mobile growing the market overall and cannibalizing other sectors,” Merel said.-

Mobile has been a game changer in the last few years and on a global basis generates more revenue than the PC and Traditional Console market. This fast increase in Mobile gaming revenue is primarily due to smartphone attach rates increasing in emerging markets such as Asia.

Digi-Capitals outlook on VR is certainly interesting. I'm not sure if I can agree with their bold forecast for VR revenue accounting for 8.6% of the market in 2020 as this would require VR to take off across Mobile, Console and PC where as at the moment I see the majority of growth in VR coming from low cost Mobile solutions. Therefore I'm not sure if there will be a huge software market for VR in the next 5 years due to lack of core gaming adopters.

Thanks to Mobile gaming which now accounts for more than 2x the revenue that the console market generates (Yes this includes hardware)

Happy to see Canada there, though I think its a bit low, especially since Canada is 8th in gaming revenue.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).
