PS4 Version of Yakuza Kiwami Beating PS3 Version “Overwhelmingly,” Japanese Store Managers Report
Yakuza Kiwami has been out for a couple of days in Japan, and local store managers are reporting that the PS4 version is selling a lot more than the PS3 one, as a further sign that the adoption of Sony’s newer console is becoming more and more solid in the archipelago of the rising sun.
The store manager of the popular Tokyo-based independent store Games Ma-Ya mentioned over multiple posts on her personal blog that the PS4 version of Yakuza Kiwami has been “overwhelmingly” at the top of sales every day, matching the series’ track record, with the included demo of Yakuza 6 also pushing sales. She also believes that the title will have a long tail for several weeks.
Another store manager, from the PAO game store in Tokyo’s Nishitama district posted a similar scenario, and provided numbers.
In its first day, Yakuza Kiwami sold 53.7% of the shipment he received on PS4, and 53.3% on PS3 ranking first and second in overall sales. While Yakuza Zero ended up selling more on PS3 when it launched, Kiwami‘s PS4 version is on top, selling about twice as many copies as the version on the old-gen console. This, according to the post, gives the impression that the PS4’s popularity is finally spreading.
Lately, there have been signals that the PS4 is taking over the PlayStation home console market in Japan, finally supplanting the venerable PS3. Looks like Yakuza Kiwami is another example of this process.
