Forums - Nintendo - Why do people love the Gamecube controller?

It's the best controller nintendo has ever come up with... but that's not saying much.

Who do you feel has contributed more concepts to the modern gaming controller than Nintendo? You don't feel they've had good controllers outside of the GameCube?

I didn't enjoy it much. Wasn't bad, but very awkward to use(however, the analogue stick and shoulder buttons were extremely comfortable).

The wii remote was less comfortable than the gamecube controller though. Unfortunately for me, I have big hands. Small tv remote-like controller+huge hands does not equal something good.

As for the gamepad, it is EXTREMELY uncomfortable for many games. Heck, it's worse than the Wii, especially for games such as Mario Kart.

The Wii U pro controller is(quite honestly) the best controller Nintendo has made in a while. Simple, efficient, good battery.

Explain to me how it is uncomfortable for mario kart? I only used the gamepad for Mario Kart. I even don't want it on TV, I find myself staring down to play most the time asyou don't see the jaggies as much on the small screen.

Using a tablet-like thing for gameplay is not comfortable for me. All of the weight on the gamepad really makes it hard for me to enjoy myself playing wii games when I'm lying down or such.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Well basically it was shit, especially the shoulder buttons. But it fits so awesomely in your hands.

Because it was the closest to the Dualshock, and the Dualshock is the best.

Really? Of the main controllers this gen (excluding wii u pro controller as it often can't be used) the ps4's is my favorite, but I always found the first three dual shocks to be narrow and uncomfortable. Donno why it took them so long to put some effort into rethinking their controller, but I'm glad they did.

The NGC controller is the best and most comfortable controller I've ever had and I'm from the NES generation.

Also, why so much hate towards the Wii U Gamepad? I love playing MK8 with it,

Ah, see I like the extra weight on the controller. it is why I also prefer say the dual shock 4 over 3, because it is about 20grams heavier. It was also the reason I prefered the xbxo 360 controller over my ps3, even though I played the ps3 more lol.

It was a pretty good controller, I won't deny that. 2nd or 3rd favorite of all time (XB1 controller is 2nd, and 360 controller is 1st).

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Because of the A button.

The general ergonomics of the GC controller were fine, but the button layout was decidedly unconventional, the right stick was a tiny nub instead of being identical to the left stick, it only had a single Z/shoulder button, and I never cared for the way the triggers were designed. Still, it was decent controller overall. A "modernized" version of the GC controller would definitely be something worth making. Some fans have already made concept art for such controllers:

i like the second one better.  my brother thinks that the Wii U pro controller is very similar to the XBOX.  He has the 360 and X1 consoles.
