Bundling the wii with gamecube controllers would be needlessly expensive. Bundling a gamecube game with a gamecube controller would have been redundant. There's no comparing to limited edition bundles nintendo does every now and then.

The port was necessary due to incompatibility with wii controllers, and was made possible because it was essentially the same hardware. Now we'll probably have a different architeture and no controller issues.

TP port wasn't necessary at all, Nintendo just could leave it only GC version and force people to buy GC controller in order to play game on Wii, but they wanted strong launch title for Wii that will go very well with Wii Sports and they wanted to sell few millions copies of game on Wii too, those are resons why they ported game on Wii, and from those same reasons they will port Zelda U on NX and make it launch title.

They could do that but if they ACTUALLY WANTED TO SELL IT TO WII OWNERS, porting was the best choice. Forcing people to buy another controller would severly reduce sales. That's why there's no reason to port Zelda U to anything.

They could sale GC controller with game or sale just separate GC controller, we already saw something similar with Skyward Sword and Motion Plus.

Again main reasons why they port TP to Wii and why they will port Zelda U and make it launch title for NX are because in that way they will have killer app for launch of complete new platform and because they will sell few millions of NX copie of a game.

"Another year of good Wii U gaming"?

The Wii U has barely anything coming out even this year, and nothing at all announced for 2017.

If there were any big games still to come, we'd know about them by now. They haven't announced a major new Wii U game since E3 2014, the writing is on the wall.

Some people believe delayed games and late localizations are "good gaming" because WiiU taught them to lower their expectations.

I think they're just hoping future directs and E3 have more games for 2016-2017.

OT: I'd be very surprised if Wii U's sucessor comes out next year. Nintendo has made no move to make the Wii U  significantly cheaper than its launch price of 350$ (and the 300$ price was an option at launch too). This shows that Nintendo has no intention of being competitive for market share. And with the lack of high quality mainstream games this recent holiday season, its safe to predict Nintendo has moved on from making big games on the Wii U and are moving on to its successor. Whether or not if this is a dumb move since Wii U life span is less than 5 years is not the main issue. The main issue is Nintendo has shown they are ready to move on.

People may be expecting something at E3 for late 2016 and 2017 but consider this.

in 2013: Xenoblade X and FE was announced. Only one of those game has come out to the Western market.

In 2014: Zelda U and Star Fox Zero were announced and shown: None of these games have been released yet

In 2015: The only new games shown were Animal Crossing and Mario Tennis which have already released.

Additionally, all 2016 games have been announced or shown before 2015 (Pokken was hinted a year after X with a footage of Blazekin and Lucario)

Based on this trend, if Nintendo has any games for 2017, they would have shown it by now to give us something to hold onto. 2015 did not give us anything new for 2016 let alone 2017.

What everyone is missing is that ,we will find out in April or May definitely if the Nintendo Nx is coming out this year ...the fiscal year ends March 31....Nintendo will soon after have projections for the next fiscal year......it will show how many units they intend to sell for the fiscal year.....(example if they state they have projections to sell 20 million units ..let's say 2 millions wii u's and let's say 5 or 6 million 3ds worldwide ......it would be somewhat obvious that the Nintendo Nx will arrive in 2016) for the fiscal year....(2016-2017)

Oh this is a good point as well. Can't wait to find out!

I've been saying this literally since the "NX" was first even hinted at. It's NOT coming out in 2016, at all. If it does, it would be a retarded move on Nintendo's part. Wii U is still making them money, not a TON, but enough. 3DS is still making them money, a fair bit actually. There is zero reason to replace either this year, and the new Prez himself has said they are "in no hurry to replace Wii U". Similar statements were made about 3DS earlier on as well.

NX is VERY VERY likely not coming out in 2016. And not only is saying it will wishful thinking, it's also silly wishful thinking, because wanting a new system to be rushed and potentially hurt it's long-term success, when you can just as easily wait and (god forbid) enjoy another year or so of good Wii U gaming. Just doesn't make any rational sense for anyone to want Nintendo to rush Wii U's succesor to market. Let it "cook" as long as it needs to go be GOOD, and have a strong lineup of games waiting, not just for launch, but all the way up until it's first holiday season and beyond. If you want NX to succeed, then THAT is what you should want to happen, in 2017.

how do you know wii u has nothing else coming out this year? do you oversee all of nintendo's development teams? if so, what projects do they have lined up for the Wii U's successor when it releases this fall? lol

seriously though, how quickly do we forget nintendo's e3 2010.

Actually Zelda U is announced in same legendary Nintendo Direct with Xenoblade X, FE and Yoshi Woolly World in January 2013.

Saying that, we didnt had single one new announcement that isn't small project, port or spin off basically from E3 2014.

That is very good point, so if NX is really coming this year they needed to reveal it around April (Nintendo reveals financial results and plans for next year usually at end of next month, that means end of April or begining of May), definitely before E3. Basically we need to wait just around 3 months more. :)

They could do that if they were stupid, bundling a GC controller with a GC game just for the people buying it to play on wii, when it was cheap to make a port. motion plus is a small acessory, far cheaper than a controller and thus easier to bundle.

Again, reasons they don't have to port Zelda U to wii u's successor (we don't know if it is NX) is because anyone can just buy the game and play it on Wii U's successor. No extra controller, just put the game on the system and play it. Enough of this talk.

WMP would cost a lot more then a GC controller because it was more recent tech and it's also well known standard controllers are dirt cheap to make, they've been sold with a massive mark up in price since the 90s. The's practically little change in the tech that was in the N64 controller and the GC's, companies just charge you 30 odd quid as standard to make huge profit it's no secret, this is why the Wiimote was the most expensive controller as MC tech was more modern yet even that was bundled with some games. So again bundling is no issue for them.

NX should just end the whole "generation" nonsense. It's stupid to reset your market share to 0 every 5-6 years.

Just make a continually evolving service as the central pillar of the platform and let people upgrade with options over the years on their OWN schedule.

My schedule for wanting/needing a new piece of system is different from someone else's, everyone is different. The game industry should become more flexible like STEAM, iOS, Android, etc. are.

Some people like a new iPhone every 1-2 years, some people use the same smart phone for 4-5 years without complaint.

Look at all this bickering over stupid shit like "I need 5 years! I prefer 4" ... who cares. Nintendo's goal should just to get people into the NX ecosystem in whatever hardware form factor suits that person the best and then sell them freaking games. Remember that? Selling games? Isn't that the damn point?

The industry is not 90% 7-14 year old boys anymore reliant on mom/dad/saving money in a piggy back to afford a video game; we don't need to be talked down to and told when to upgrade, if game consoles aren't toys anymore, then stop treating us like fucking toy buyers.

That's what I would like to see. End of all this nonsense and introduce a more democratic model that gives the consumer a say in their own freaking entertainment. What's Nintendo clinging to the old model for anyway? They have basically nothing left in the console market ... a puny little 10 million base of buyers, so why cling to an outdated way of offering hardware to consumers when it doesn't even work for you anymore in the first place.

If the NX is more of an OS/ unifying platform, that makes sense.  But if NX is a sub brand or product line (like iphone, playstation etc) then it might not work, because if it fails then Nintendo will need the refreshes to change public perception (like with gamecube, Wii U).

So I like the idea of NX being the quiet, new platform, and foundation moving forward, but Nintendo needs the freedom of releasing any hardware at any time, so if one (or more) hw iteration bombs their business won't be hampered.  The generational approach must die, and Nintendo IMO will flourish in taking more risks every couple yrs, making it more likely for them to hit a wii like "home run".
