Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo 3DS is STILL doing better than PSP. NX will screw its chances on beating PSP.

I'm making this quick so I'm unable to give you numbers in sales. I went on the first 3 years of the PSP's lifetime and also did the same with 3DS. I thought by now PSP would overcome the 3DS is terms of sales. But actually... NO IT DIDN'T. The 3DS is slightly doing better than PSP just by a few million more! But it's a shame that Nintendo not only cut short Wii U's lifetime but also the 3DS! I know the 3DS is turning 5 years old this year but I'd say 3 more years would be a full Seventh gen lifetime. But looks like 3DS will only be supported for another year and poof. Its all about the NX. 3DS will go down in history as Nintendo's WORST selling handheld of all time. Coincidently also the Wii U will be Nintendo's worst home console of all time too! both in the same gen.  I predict 3DS will sell ATLEAST 70 Million lifetime. What do you think?

I don't think Nintendo will care about beating the PSP. They know its declining because of a tougher competition (Not the Vita, its the smartphones)

Pocky Lover Boy!

But i have to say congrats on Beating the PSP with both at the same amount of time. Especially with the smartphones market making an impact on the 3DS.

The differences between the PSP and the 3DS are very important to make that comparaison.

-The PSP came during a time when handheld devices were all the rage, plus it was one of the best multimedia systems around. The 3DS has to compete with all sorts of other portable competition (mobile devices, tablets...) and it's very limited compared to those, it's definitively not an adecuate multimedia device.

-All PS devices have really good support, even after their replacement. Also, the Vita didn't inmediately take off, so those sales still went to the PSP. The 3DS almost had the same problem, but they manage to cut it quicker. If they hadn't done that, the DS would have reached and surpassed the sales of the PS2.

-The PSP was very easy to pirate, and I'm sure that sold the hardware to a lot of people. The 3DS doesn't have that "advantage".

-PSP had a lot of 3rd party support thanks to the healthier handheld market of the time. The 3DS has a good support too, but not nearly as much as the DS-PSP times.

Considering how hard the mobile market has damaged dedicated handheld gaming, I'm happy to see the 3DS still selling as well as it is.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Yep! Exactly this! Nintendo still pulled it off what Sony couldn't do!
