Forums - Sony - So does the SIXAXIS just randomly turn on to drain battary life?

@ TWESTERM -I always charge my controller up when it's about to die and play with it until it charges completely, and i can use it for 10 hrs. or so. But Do Not Put your ps3 controller in your fridge because it would destroy your controller. I use mine a lot though. My dual shock 3 sixaxis controller holds its charge for a long time also since i got it two weeks ago,so it might just be your controller messing up.Charge yours up and play it for a while and see how long it holds a charge and go from there.I dont charge one controller and play with the other because i charge and play with the same one.

That link is for batteries by theirselves not still inside the controller to put in the fridgerator. So if you can take the controller apart and put the rechargable batteries in there then fine. But y would you need to put them in the fridge anyway, just hook the usb charging cable up to the controller and let it charge up and play with it(even while its charging cause it does both at the same time..

Fair enough, but how would cold temperature damage ANY of the components?

So I've had my PS3 for about 5-ish months and I've probably had to recharge my controller nearly 10 times. Now I know that doesn't sound like much at all if you actually play your PS3, but I actually use my controller maybe once or twice a month if that and not for that long.

Each time my controller sits there flashing at me not letting me play a game when I actually want to I plug my controller into the PS3 and let it sit for a few hours. I can't really play while it's charging because the cord I have is ridiculously short and I know it does actually charge my controller.

It's aggrevating because I rarely use my controller and I assume letting charge for a few hours would be sufficient enough to charge it but I guess not. I suppose I get a few hours of playtime at most and then next month when I want to play a game on my PS3 again it's dead.

How is my controller dieing so often?

I do watch movies all the time on my PS3 but I never even touch my controller, I use a remote. As far as I know the controller never turns on unless I actually turn it on so I have no idea why the charge sucks so much. Hopefully the Duelshock 3 holds a charge a bit better.

Have you considered leaving the controller plugged in by USB cable while you're watching movies?

That's what I did after writing the post (and yes, I know the PS3 must be turned on to charge the controller).  A few hours later I tried to play again and it said it was full.  I played an hour or two of Lost (I hate that game) and it said it was still full.  I'm sure if I check again in a few days, it will be lower.

Do I still have the warranty even if I bought my console used?

i think it slows down the energy draining out slowly out of the battery (Cold = slow things down)

I can't believe this topic is still going....

Rechargeable batteries always lose their charge over time and period of non-use. If you ever own a handheld, you'll know that.

/end of topic.

Do you actually have any proof of this? Having a fairly extensive working knowledge of electronics I can think of no reason what-so-ever to think you are right. Infact, they tend to be enhanced by cold rather than damaged unless you go to extremes. There is more than one reason that your ideal server closet is a meat locker. The only problem in a typical fridge is moisture, but even that is not much higher than the rest of your house. The controller would be unharmed by being stored in the fridge.

Ni-MH loses a charge faster.

In which case there is definately something wrong with twesterms controller, because even my normal Ni-MH batteries last longer than that (seems to be about half the charge in 1 month).

Unless it's because the PS3 controller batteries are permanently in the circuit... so if I were to leave my normal Ni-MHs in one of my extra Wii remotes (instead of in a drawer) they would discharge faster?

If you're still within the coverage period then I think you ought to be. They might try to BS you but I'm pretty confident that everything depends on whether it's inside the warranty period. I'm not 100% positive though.
