Forums - Sales - Neogaf insider on FFXV preorder platform split

I was expecting a more even distribution (with some advantage for PS4) but not nearly as much as this. FF goes beyond being a game just for JRPG lovers, the brand is quite strong and atract interest of a crowd that dont usualy pay much atention to other JRPGs, Im kinda surprised PS4 has this large of an advantage.

preorders: PS4 #8, XB1 #356

Okaaaaay.
So this game is going to atleast sell 10 times as much on the PS4?

Is there ever going to be any doubt?.

One platform has the most FF games and can even play some of the older titles, the other has next to none on their store besides the one spinoff or two and doesn't have any BC for any of the old ones which basically means as a a FF fan on XB, you're fucked. Of course it;s going to sell more on the platform that has the bulk of the series, when you've no choice it becomes a no brainer.

@Chazore

ofc but... more than x10 as much? is that normal for FF games?

Only other FF game we have to go by is 13, and when that released the 360 were ahead of the PS3. It still sold more on the PS3 but not by a 10x1 margin.

Think Final Fantasy 13 killed any chance of Final Fantasy games becoming popular on the Xbox platforms. Even the sales of the FF13 sequels show how poorly recieved the Xbox reception was. FF13 has been a disaster for Square Enix on the Xbox console.

Well when one system has all the JRPG's and the other has next to none then it's hardly surprising, especially when the system that gets less and less of them cannot run them at a decent level and that of course is going to factor in who buys what system and of course that puts X1 at a huge disadvantage which is why I still think going with lesser more expensive hw is forever going to bite them for the remainder of the gen.

That said SE shouldn't bet on just one horse in this entire industry.

If one system lacks these types of games it should encourage the system owners to buy the view remaining games of this genre of their platform, imo

Maybe, but Abdiel does manage or supervise several US game stores. He's a regional manager in a company like Best Buy, or something equivalent, I don't remember. Anyway, he gives insight about sales every month, tell how the games launches go,  what the ratios are in his stores, etc...

Strap yourselves in because you're likely going to see SE go to plaid

What could they buy that wouldn't upset the userbase?.

Also the X1 doesn't run games as good as the PS4 so we've got that to consider as well, the weaker HW is just a factor MS knows they have to consider, back with the PS1-2 that sort of issue didn't matter but now visuals and good frames now do.

Also I don't remember the 360 having a bountiful plethora of JRPG's last gen, I do know they had some but not a massive list that outweighed the PS3, especially near the current list now.

The way things are now I just don't see a Western console ever getting a hand on the JRPG market let alone being more popular with it.
