Forums - Gaming - Son spends over $7000 in FIFA with his father's credit card

You know gaming is effed up when crap like this comes up. You can buy all three major gaming consoles and several games and accesories with that money.

EA and M$ at their best.

I think people are exagerating, you can get all of those items by playing the game. Besides fifa coins ypu buy with real money can't be used to buy players on the online market, where it pretty much where you get all your players. The advantaje could be quickselling those items gives you more money, but the point where the game could be really unbalanced is at the point where you spend money like this kid.

There are videos online of random opening packs and people spend millions fifa coins and don't necessarily get Messi or Ronaldo.

Besides, you can build a very good te a m without spending much. I have a 81 rating team not spending more than 3.000 on a single player (7.500 buys you a golden pack where you can get average 70 something players and on the market 85 plus players are like 30.000 worth )

As much as you spend, there is not so much of a unbeatable differemce between 80 plus teams. In the end, it's more about being good playing than buying shit

Oh, and I agree with the point where there is so much ignorance on a huge franchise like Fifa.

There is a huge load of content, manager and player carreer mode, FUT, normal tournaments, online community and local multiplayer. Massive amount of teams and leagues too.

It's like people hate it just because they hate sports in general. I love my JRPGs and adventure games and that doesn't make me hate sports games o any other game with huge popularity just because "normal" people enjoy them

And by the way, gameplay changes even if some people don't notice it

You have to realize that people in America really, REALLY don't care about soccer/football.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gs5zHtvJfX8

Video from last month of Portland celebrating cup victory with parade in the city.  Someone should tell these people they "really, REALLY don't care" about this club and sport.  I mean the flags, scarves and banners accompanied by chants and songs and jubilation?  They really missed the memo to be conform to outdated stereotypes there.

Oh, and FIFA is the second best selling sport video game (behind Madden) here.  I guess we really really really don't care about baseball or hockey here. Nothing personal Truck, just button issue that gets me.

It's just an harmless joke. My sport of choice is tennis so I can't really talk. It's not like tennis games light the world on fire.

P.S.: Tennis is the only sport worth watching.

Poe's Law strikes again for me here, my bad.

Let's not forget Pong was essentially a crude version of tennis so has its place in the medium's history.

That's a stretch but I'll take it.

Not to mention the 1958 possibly first video game which used a display!

Tennis rules in terms of video game history.

That it's even possible for a $60 game to have that much in dlc shows the poor state of this industry.

Well it doesn't really have any dlc content :s in a way, it's blind bags of random players to make teams with, players from teams already in the game for the most part, but you can spend as much as you want trying to get the perfect team of super rare players in their Shiny card status.

They are massively expensive tho and they just have 1 or 2 guarenteed good cards in them, EA started doing the blind bag stuff with Dead Space 3 I think, now it's gone nuts into Fifa tho.

It's still terrible.

It's even more terrible I think, that you can sink 1000s into the mode like this even tho the kid wasn't aware that it was actually hooked up to his dads credit card. I mean if you go from playing something like Guitar Hero 3 where you unlock extra songs by spending money ... but it's actual in game money that you earn from playing Songs to Fifa where these packs has a $ figure on them.... but it's not in game dollars it has now become actual dollars then yeah of course kids are going to get caught out.

The newer forza and Gran Turismo push it fairly heavily as well, buying cars with in game currency or car tokens bought with real money.

Someone will have to correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure that the game actually transfers you to the MS storefront everytime you go to make a purchase that is going to use real money.  I have serious doubts the kid wasn't aware he was using money.

I've not played any of the newer Fifa games to know, but in Forza you can get ported out to buy the car tokens and you can buy them in packs of like 70 I think it was, then when you're buying a car in game you have the option to use those tokens but you aren't told then that it is the real money option you're using, that was done to buy the currency.

Still tho, like I said earlier in the X360/Ps3/Wii generation there was games with content unlockable with in game $ and later on there was more and more which used a real life $, I could expect a tiny bit of confusion between the 2.
