Forums - Gaming - Halo 2 vs. Halo 3 comparison

Download the actual video instead of just watching on the website for a bigger view. Yeah I think this is what Nintendo was getting at when they decided not to have a more powerful system. The graphics will look better, but not THAT much better.

As a side note it is great to watch Xbots now suddenly say "well the graphics aren't great but the gameplay will be awesome". Not yet quite recognizing the secret of the Wii's success but one small step at a time.

I'm not an Xbot but I thought I'd comment on this anyways, I believe great graphics and great gameplay don't have to be mutually exclusive but what I found rather ironic were a few Nintendo fans coming in and slamming the graphics when the entire concept of Wii is gameplay with graphics seeming to be secondary. Don't get me wrong I'm not insulting the Wii or Nintendo just that I found some of the replies here ironic.

That is a great point.  Wii fanboys have no room to insult graphics.  It will still look better than any Wii game.

And when we says graphics don't matter about the Wii is because we know that we buy the console for the gameplay, when we buy a 360 or a PS3, graphics matter because buy it for that.

Who is this "we" you're talking about? I bought one for games like Gears of War, Oblivion, Dead Rising and other games that got very good reviews and have excellent gameplay to go along with great graphics.

To put some perspective on it from my viewpoint, the 360 has 44 games on Gamerankings that received an average score of 80% or above while the Wii has 5 games to do that. Since those games that received 80% or above have great gameplay why wouldn't it seem logical for someone to pick the 360 over the Wii if their prime motivation is gameplay?

I played the Beta on my friend's 360. No impressed. Unreal Tournament 3 will look and play 1000 times better.

Not picking on you or your testy nerves of late windbane but your quote has both I will respond to.  Maybe if you read what I said you would see that I didn't insult Halo 3's graphics, I defended them.   My point is simply that it's funny to watch xbots who've been waxing idiotic for the last 6 years about how graphics are everything and the Wii is unplayable because of bad graphics now suddenly decide graphics aren't everything when their holy grail of gaming doesn't max out the 360's capabilities.  The last part is my hope that rather than spend the next 4 years crying and railing at the world because "10 year old" graphics are selling better than "next gen" graphics xbots would instead realize the fact that gameplay is hugely important to games.

I agree with you legend, I'm not a fanboy but I have seen Nintendo fanboys do the reverse shuffle from it's all about graphics + gameplay to it's all about gameplay.  However, I wasn't on forums to poke fun at them when they were doing it.  Unlike some people I can tell you aren't insulting the Wii just as I'm not insulting Halo 3's graphics.

Another twofer, ummm, the fact the 360 has many more games doesn't have a role in that now does it?  There was a thread on here before about the PS360 vs Wii game scores.  It was just stuff that should be well known to any informed gamer, a lot of the Wii's games are flat out trash ports from the PS2 by devs trying make some of their money back they're losing by picking the wrong horse last year, we're early into motion controls and just like when we were early into 3D there were a few great games and a lot of trash, and some sites (such as IGN) have Nintendo editors that rate games far tougher than the PS3/360 reviewers (in IGN's case as a matter of policy they lower scores for things like 16:9 support that are not related to gameplay).  Also I think it was Kotaku that had a discussion about whether the fact that game reviewers by nature are hard core gamers is slanting reviews.  Some hard core gamers are clearly sufferring mixed emotions at best about the Wii which may be having an effect.

Nevertheless it's still early, MS is seeing one of the benefits of launching early.  However, very few gamers have upgraded so far (less than 1 in 8) and MS is about to lose it's benefit of launching early (install base lead) so we'll see how the scores stack up next year.  Lastly you have to consider what are those 44 games?  Are they mostly shooters, sports, and racing games like the general 360 lineup?  Ignoring the $400-250 price difference and terrible reliability/customer service, is that the best lineup for everyone.  Of course for some gamers it is, but for others the 5 Wii games may be a better choice.  I would say that at this point in time the 360 lineup is better for more gamers but that advantage dwindles every month.  Smart gamers do have to look ahead also, you're buying something you'll be playing for the next 5 years after all.

So if I may also indulge in a little it of flashy overstatement,

Burn.... I'm the insult master.

Thats an awful point and you know it. The fact is the Xbox has been out for a year longer than the Wii and so has a huge number more games. At least use percentages.
