OR is high-end...oh dear.

Sorry, not even close. StarVR is high end VR headset with 5120x1440 resolution and 210 degree FOV vs 110 of OR.

As for OR CV1 - people who tried it say it's much better than DK2 (which is honestly not that good), but this seems to be due to better optics, not better screen - screen is still PenTile (which means 1 Blue and 1 Red for 2 Green subpixels), and PSVR's full RGB screen while slightly lower in res is said to have similar or even better image.

I'm gonna get a PSVR once the price is $250 so in 2 years or so, by that time there will be more games too so it's a win-win.

I want an Occult Rift:

I can't imagie StarVR being practical. Nvidia said that 13 million PCs can run the Rift, can you imagine how small the number that could run StarVR is?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

So is PCVR dead or what?.

I'm just waiting for the echo chamber to respond because we're going to get a thread on that subject sooner or later and I predict the results will stay the same.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Are you just going to keep saying that anytime anyone brings up VR? No, PCVR isn't dead. Not every bit of negativity towards PCVR is a claim that it's dead. Relax.

First time I;m legit asking because as far as I can see it's apparently SOL in terms of price, popularity, company backing it, marketing etc. This site is more or less doing the ebst job at pointing all of that out and I don't even need to visit any other sites liek I would do if I truly cared (because I;m not heavily wanting to invest in VR but clearly a new Warz is being made out of this).

The negativity isn't really going to change things, I mean that comes with the package from what I can see. To me it doesn't matter what the OR does because I'm more interested in seeing what the Vive can do but I can easily guess we'll see the same reaction we got here a few days back when it came to it's price.

But I am legit asking if you think it's dead/going to die because I'm wanting this question put to reast rather than dragged through the mud for kicks.

No, I think PCVR will be okay. Even Oculus will be fine, it's expensive, but not really THAT expensive. It's actually the Vive I'd be more worried about. It's going to be very, very expensive, and it's just different than the other two. Software support so far looks like it's going to be much stronger for Oculus and Sony.

StarVR is nuts, it's beyond high end.  It's enthusiast.  There's not likely many PCs that will even be able to run it.  Additionally resolution isn't everything.

I haven't heard many comparisons to PSVR with the new OR headset.

I agree, resolution is not everything. That FOV however....it's 210Hx130V, that's almost like reality. Add on that that you can put markers on pretty much anything and StarVR will track it, so you have far more versatile experience.

It is true that you need insane rig to run what is almost 4K in pixel count, @90Hz, so probably at least 980Ti SLI, but anyway, the whole point was that OR is not high end - this thingy is - so Palmer should really not throw around such silly PR statements.

Eh I spent £400 on my GPU alone but at the same time I'm not the type willing to fork over £700 for say a monitor and a 1st gen pub VR kit I wouldn't say is worth £600 big ones which is why I'll be investing further on down the line by the 3rd revision at least.
