I agree with most of that but How can you say ps3 was at its upper limit and the Wii at its lower.

The Wii was a once off fad that people got bored of and moved on. they could be still releasing titles for it to this day but it wouldn't do much better.

The ps3 was horribly priced and could never reach lows anywhere near the ps2. If they developed the thing properly they could have gotten it much lower and sold a ton more.

I just can't accept that. Regarding catering for an older audience, it's hard. The tastes of a gamer is the same at 16, 26 or 36. The problem is a lot of teenagers just stop gaming in their 20's or 30's because they have more important things to be doing like working, raising kids, socialising, gym, sports etc. you can't reasonably expect them to remain gamers.

How many more high-profile third party games could the PS3 have got? Hardly any, because it already had almost all of them. The situation is the opposite for the Wii, so that console would have seen a notable increase in its hardware sales, especially if that increase in games had come at the expense of the PS3.

The taste of gamers changes over their lifetime, just like the consumption of movie and TV show genres changes. At some point most people lose interest in products that pander to teenager fantasies, so they would stop consuming them even if they had the time to experience them. With increased responsibilities, time becomes more precious. Hence why a game like Wii Sports that gets straight to the point is a much better value than an RPG that requires five hours of investment before you can even start to enjoy it. The correct conclusion is that you can't reasonably expect people to play the same types of games for all of their life, but that doesn't rule out that they keep playing video games.

The 3DS and DS got many big name games that the ps4 could have gotten.  Imagine ps3 kept the mainline games the ps2 had like dragon quest, yokai watch,  monster hunter,  Kingdom Hearts etc.  Don't even try and say it wouldn't sell a few million more.

That's games but also consider price.  The Wii was dead cheap.  The ps3 was a rip off.  It never even got down to a really low price.  If it got $100 cheaper it would have sold many more.

You cannot possibly argue the ps3 sold the most it possibly could.

Amazing numbers, but in the end only the lifetime numbers count and not the numbers achieved in one year, right?
Take a look at the hardware lifetime numbers, Wii only beat PS3 with a gap less than 15M. 15M is not much, especially not enough to call Wii the beast of the 7th generation like a lot people do. A beast would be the PS2, it outsold ALL the competition 3x in lifetime numbers.
Oh and in the end PS3 sold more software than Wii, though I remember that the Wii was the most heavily bundled console ever with games like Wii Sports or Mario Kart Wii.

15M is not much? lol... Its a huge gap, don't pretend okay. The Wii was a beast there is no denying it. The last tme I checked we determine the console wars in one of two ways, Most hardware and Most profit. Usually you go by most hardware. Wii outsold PS3 therefore it won the generation. Ps2 won its generation as well doesn't matter how much it outsold the competitors by.

Now Let's go back to the topic, Who sold the most hardware the wii, which made the most profit the wii. Which console after its almost 10 year life was just about breaking even, ps3. This argument is pointless and all you guys are doign is trying to deny the wii. Don't deny it, don't call it a fad. It happened, it was amazing, it was the fastest selling console at its time. Alright? Alright.

You want us to get back on topic? Lol.  The Wii was brought up by roll and it was a fairly minute side point to our arguments.  You took issue with one line I said about it and went off on a tangent.  You probably can't even remember the original discussion and that was whether or not the ps3 and Wii sold to the maximum or minimum potential.

I won't continue. Comments like this one shows that they don't want to have a reasonable communication.
I am outta here, it is really late. Good night. :)

Don't listen to them brother.  We've ruffled a few feathers with our opinions.  If people can't deal with them don't let their hate put you off.  I always enjoy reading your posts.

Ps.  I disagree that the Wii and ps1 were not beasts.  I think they were.

We can't change the hardware because we were talking about how much the hardware as it is could have potentially sold. As for the software...

Obviously the massive influx of casuals has a knock on effect.

The gamecube and Wii U prove how small the core base really is.  The whole point I'm making is the Wii in Japan definitely didn't under sell its potential.  It just died when the fad died down.

...your stance is incredibly biased.

I'm not talking about it as it was. It's perfectly valid say if Sony didn't up the design it would have sold better.  As for the software it's a valid point.

My stance isn't biased,  it's factual.  the WiiU has most of Nintendos console big hitters.  Where are the other 90m Nintendo fans now? They won't be coming back either.

.

No, some of you want to see the wii like a console that sold only to soccer moms that played Wii sorts for a week and they forgot about it, but thats because some of you just dont want to recognise that Nintendo won. I may have to remember you that wii sold:

-2007: 16.5m
-2008: 24 m
-2009: 21m
-2010: 17m

The console was selling like a beast 4 consecutive years, Ps3 and Xb360 never reached those highs in all their lifes, so much for being a "fad", and even when the console went down in 2011, it still sold more than WiiU in all its life, if the interest for the console was so short, then how the hell was selling more than Ps4 even on its 4th year? And how they sold +10 m of units on its lowest year before its succesor? Sounds just like excuses to me.

Amazing numbers, but in the end only the lifetime numbers count and not the numbers achieved in one year, right?

Im guessing the 3DS would be a COMEPLETE BEAST!!!! Selling nearly 5x than the competition.

You know shit about what you are saying, what happens with the 3DS then? In an age where hanhelds are dying is gonna sell 70m, but sure now you are gonna get another number out of your ass and say that only 15 milions of 3ds owners are "dedicated users" just because you say so, half of my nintendo fans friends (and there are a alot) dont had the wiiu, yet all of them had the wii, almost all of them have the 3DS though, WiiU had a terrible marketing and a poor line up on launch, it is the most expensive Nintendo console, later it had a terrible press everywhere, then it lost third party support, then everyone was talking about how doomed the console was and finally Zelda was delayed, tons of fans were wating for Zelda, but it didnt come, there has been a lot of insecurity around the console and many didn buy it but Wiiu dont have all Nintendo fans on it, not even close, you are just being extremely biased in your arguments like always.

Im afraid this might get locked soon......... Especially how the main topic/point of this thread is the software+hardware sold in Japan on the Final/First week of 2015/2016.

But its great to see how much people can write here (Its like almost an Essay!). I always shorten my responses.

You say that and ignore how much more the wii could have sold with the many games it missed.

the last great nintendo console was gamecube imo and i hated both wii and wiiu i hope nintendo will remove the wii brand anyway i can't wait to see nx this year
