I prefer games that don't have set stories and therefore lengths. But if it is story based the time isn't a factor in my decision at all, it's as irrelevant to me and the name of the company intern. All I want to know is whether it's good and fun.

Length isn't important. Take Half Life 2. For me it's only a good game. Not great. Why?
It took me 13 hours. 4 of which they should have cut straight out. To much tedious arseing around. See Halo 3 on the other hand is 8 hours long but never tedious. I hate when developers think they better make it longer and have those stringy out sections which ruin the experience. Devs should just tell there story and if it's 8 hours so be it. As long as it's a mind blowing experience that far outways a 30 hour game with only 12 hours worth playing.

Those "tedious" sections were called a "plot." Some games have this complex mechanic called "dialogue" in which they deliver this thing called a "story" which you think through using your "brain."

Seriously Half-Life 2 may not be for everyone, but it's a story driven game and respect it as such. It in no way overstayed it's welcome if you like complex story development.

The driving section was boring as was the rooftop and graveyard section. Completely unessary and would've been easily taken out and still had all the story.

I'm going to agree with selnor on this one, most of the game is jus added filler with no points and if moving boards around is part of the "Story" then Tetris must of have a great story

I never even finished HL2 ep2 because it was just too long and boring, while a shorter more action packed game i have no problem beating them over and over again.  The Halo series, CoD4, RFoM or R&C i have all beaten about 4times each.

Honestly, I don't care about the length if the game is "complete."

I've got games I've spent 8 hours on that are better and more worthwhile than games I've "made" myself spend 75+ hours on.

I play games for the "story." If the story can be told in 10 hours I'm fine with that.
What I don't like is games that rush or games that drag out what should only be a 10-15 hour game.

Length just depends on the game and entertainment value.
