Have you looked at the mobile market?

There are $50 devices being released with 720/1080p.

No excuses this time. The market has evolved too much to only give 480p on a $200 device

I've looked at the mobile market, from a gaming standpoint, it doesn't make sense to make a 720p device if 98% of the games on mobile devices look like 360p or lower and the other 2% are racing games that aren't free to play.

Nintendo will have as it's only competitior the Steam Boy (which I predict will bomb SOOOOOOO HARD) and the Steam library is the one that is the most similar to mobile libraries: there's a lot of games, shure, but MOST of them play and look as absolute garbage, Nintendo instead with a low-medium screen will keep offering it's high profile games with extremely good quality that gives sense to the price of the game.

What the hell is the point of "great quality" if you don't even have the decency to go at least 540/720p in 2016? "nintendo quality" my ass.

the point is that at least the gameplay is good, while mobile games have repetitive gameplay, microtransactions and as I stated previously they don't even take advantage of the specs of the mobile devices in the majority of cases. plus if Nintendo released one year ago the N3DS for 150$ don't you think they could realize a 480/540p device for the same price if not even lower ?

I predict it will depend on the game.

I love how people miss that many Wii U games are 1080p, some are 720p60, "Xenoblade X" may be less than that (beautiful game, low res). It's always going to depend on how hard the dev pushes the hardware. Every game could be 1080p60 on the PS4 if devs were willing to make concessions on the visuals.

Why not!? We can say that 720p/60fps is standard for Wii U because most of Wii U games works at 720p/60fps and we even have Smash Bros that running at 1080p/60fps, so they probably will go for 1080p/60fps with NX home console same they go for 720p/60fps with Wii U.

simplify their games only to reach that target (with a few exceptions such as Virtua Tennis 4 or NBA Street Homecourt).

Smash Bros isn't demanding though.

Try a game such as GTA or fallout at 1080p@60FPS. You'd need a $1000+ PC just to do that.

thinking nintendo can make all games 1080p@60FPS just because of Smash Bros is naive

More about 750-800$. With AMD Polaris tecnology coming this year I belive they could likely run the large majority of Ps4 games 60@1080 with a console in the 400$ price range, but I believe it's still too expensive for Ninty. They should launch at a price on par with Ps4/Xbone, or less.

Probably not, no. I don't think Nintendo hits the 1080p/60fps mark as a standard. I don't think the NX home will be as powerful as even the X1.

If it's not, the console is pointless in my opinion.

Wait, so they will both have the same specs? Because if they don't they will have to change more than just the resolution and fps.

If you think they will then i will ask you this: You do realise that that means the portable will be more expensive than the home console?

You still didn't answer my question.

We all know the gameplay is good. However, there are times where even casuals will complain about the weakness and low resolution.

And the N3DS was a chance to squeeze out a bit more of cash out of the 3DS family. There's a bigger need for a higher resolution handheld for the NX than the 3DS, especially if the hybrid system-handheld rumor is true

Not on high settings.

Sure, a lot of games could be run on 1080p@60FPS(especially with the new AMD tech), but the games such as GTA and other high-demanding games require a lot in order to efficiently run at 1080p@60FPS in high settings

I answered your question, verry simply there aren't high resolution games that take advantage of said resolution on whatever other device because it's the Handheld market. I agree that Nintendo needs to push power with their NXDS but I don't see them going further than 540p and honestly knowing their aproach to higher specs I would be surprised if they did so...
