Forums - Gaming - Pac-Man's development intended to bring women to Arcade with the idea that they like to eat

- Pac-Man's creator Iwatani Toru talked about the idea behind the creation of the iconic game to The Mainichi website

- He said:

"The development of Pac-Man started as a way to attract women to arcades, which were generally a men's playground. We thought that women liked to eat, so we came up with the idea of making a video game where a cute character eats little monsters rather than a savage video game where you kill your enemies,"

- according to The Mainichi, Iwatani said that Pac-Man was inspired by a pizza with one slice missing.

Ehh... a general like or dislike for food has nothing to do with gender.

If I could ever get video embedding to work, right here I would post "Girls Just Wanna Have Lunch" by Weird Al.

Seems to have worked out perfectly.

Now seriously I wish they filmed the meeting between the devs to see what they said each other, I'm shure it would be hilarious and it'd become a MEME in no time

Eh. People are going to get bent out of shape over this but it's kind of a Japanese belief that going out for cakes and pastries and such is something females love to do.

Lmao, that's pretty hilarious xD

Yeah. Because no man ever liked eating. *shudder* ugh, basic survival, blech *shudder*
Seriously, what? They talk about women like they've never seen one in real life. I can practically hear the meeting:

Dev 1: 'Hey, let's make a game that women like, that seems like a huge potential market!'
Dev 2: 'Yeah! Great idea! So, what kind of game should we make?'
Dev 1: 'I.........uh.......I don't know.....they didn't seem to like any of our previous games........what DO women like...?'

Dev 3: '...........................................eating?'

The thing is that it sort of worked. Pac-man was much more popular with women than most other arcade games before it, as far as I know.

OT: Japanese culture is amusing.

This has been known for about 20 years lol. Not really anything new here.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Um.... wat? :|
