I don't really think that matters. Does Bionic Commando still have a large following? Most gamers today have never even held one of those hallowed rectangular NES controllers, that doesn't mean an old series can't succeed in spite of it's long haitus, or that only lovers of the ancient originals will buy the new one. Evidence? Metal Gear Solid, an MSX and NES game that disappeared for a many a year only to resurface on PSX and become a hype machine, and huge series.
If done well, Pit could become another heavy hitter, a new super anticipated series of games that has an oldschool background, just like Metal Gear.
