I'm so wanting to get cracking on it, but i want to finish AC Unity first. >.< Curse my backlog.
From the little i played i was immidiatly hooked, wich is why i stopped and didnt touch it again or i would be embarking on a huge adventure before clearing some more backlog titles this year.
Project X zone has been wasting away at my time aswell. :/

- Main story is too damn short. Ridiculously short for an X.
- Music tracks often have lyrics that murder the songs.
- Normal missions and Basic missions kill the experience of this game. Too many and far too similar. Boring, repetitive, and not fun (bar a few). They don't respect your time at all. "Hey run across this open landmass for 3 hours in hopes you find 4 of this item you have no idea where its located."
- That beautiful world has little substance in terms of content. Spam repetitive missions or do a cool main story mission every once and a long time.
- Skells unbalance the experience.
- Characters are pretty irrelevant outside of two or three that are forced on you for every mission.
- Combat still poorly mimics that of an MMO.
- UI is a mess and the text is so small it's almost unreadable.
- Game doesn't explain things to the player, which is fine, but at times even the manual doesn't explain anything.
Almost to the end with 60 hours on the clock now. Pretty much only playing it so I have reference for a future X that hopefully is much better than this. I could easily dedicate another 70-80 hours, but I don't want too. It's not fun enough, it doesn't respect my time, and it's a massive step down as an X.

Time spent doing the actual quests? Probably 15-18 hours. There's only twelve main missions plus the opening. There are "required" affinity missions in between once and awhile, but they aren't up to par with what you would expect from a main story quest.
In between each quest is essentially some form of grind whether that be exploration of an area, doing XX quest, or reaching a certain level. It's really strange, and obviously is used to prolong the experience.

I'm not a completionist when it comes to games with a ton of sidequests but I still do them from time to time so hopefully when I get the game in the future it'll have a decent amount of time but then again....I tend to explore aimlessly at times XD |
Well I mean if you like doing mindless content you might enjoy Xenoblade Chronicles X. There's certainly no shortage of things to do, but the problem is how low your tolerance level is. The things you do for a majority of the experience is pretty mundane.

Yes but my original post was referring to console RPGs which is why I asked about NES games. FF and DW represent the birth of console RPGs. They're the template and their gameplay stands as the bearer of "traditional" mechanics/story etc.
Xenoblade plays like a modern version of the first big console RPG. Fallout, Bloodborne etc. do not.

Does it matter if it's a console RPG or not in this case ? "Console" RPGs didn't establish "traditional" RPGs, table top RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons did ...
I don't disagree with you that XCX is more deserving of the RPG label when the rest of are a pack of pseudo RPGs ...

Everyone knows what I meant but people just like to argue for the sake of arguing. I could have said "from the NES forward" and someone, with a shitty life and an axe to grind with the world, would have argued against it.
