I don't know if we have any SOCOM fans here, but it seems that the May EGM will have a big cover story, write up on SOCOM Confrontation.

Anyhow, here's a sneak peak of the special forces:

As we revealed early this month, the May issue of EGM has a blow-out cover story on SOCOM Confrontation. Along with the loads of other Confrontation info in the story, you'll find a list of all the different special forces included in the game. Joining a special force is now a perk associated with joining a clan; solo players will still be able to play as either commandos or mercenaries, but special forces (and their associated uniforms, gear, and weapons) will only be available to clan members. Only, er, we got the list a little bit wrong in the mag. So here, for the first time anywhere, is the complete, correct lineup of special forces available at launch, complete with links to Wikipedia entries for the real-life organizations.

To reiterate, neither Italy's COMSUBIM nor France's GIGN will be included in the game... at least not in the initial release. You can get all the other information you need on SOCOM Confrontation when the May issue of EGM begins arriving in subscriber's mailboxes next week!

Will it be as good as Call of Duty 4? COD4 is the benchmark game where all shooter games are compared to. The screen shots of SOCOM look impressive, another shooter game in a saturated shooter game market. It will have heavy competition with Resistance 2, MGS4, Kill Zone 2 and the many other shooter games on the market.

So are there no terrorists?  Anyways, if this is the equivalent of Socom II with good hit detection, I won't touch any other shooters this year (unless you want to count MGS4 as a shooter).  Granted I'm not getting my hopes up, but one can dream.

Personally, I didn't care too much for CoD4 (However, I agree it looked BEAUTIFUL). No co-op splitscreen which is a must for FPS games for me. It's no fun to have buddies come over and WATCH me play a game. I like it when they can pick up a controller and join in.

SOCOM: Confrontation has one major difference from all those games listed. It's not a FPS...it's a Third Person Shooter (which I actually prefer usually).

Darn no co-op I never played COD4 only read reviews on it and heard about it being a great game. Even Resistance, Gears of War, Rainbow Six Vegas all have co-op in them.

SOCOM looks good so far but we will need to see how its like in gameplay.

 Yeah, that's what ruined CoD4 for me.  Otherwise it would have been brilliant...but it gets so damn boring playing by yourself.

 

Yeah, hopefully some SOCOM info will start leaking out soon since it's suppose to release this summer.  This is actually only one of two SOCOM's in the works for the ps3 currently.  I want a good high-def tralier though before I can say too much--screenshots can only tell you so much.
