You know he's not only the one person. We also have Keiji Inafune prefers Western games to Japanese ones. Who else... There's more.

Shinji Mikami, I remember couple years ago he was talkin about how Japanese games need to be evolve and stuffs like that, he created his own studio and now working with an american gaming company Bethesda Softworks, his latest game is The Evil Within btw.
Fumito Ueda the creator of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, he's also the creator of one of the most anticipated PS4 Exclusive next year, The Last Guardian. He's deeply interesting in Western games, particularly the FPS genre.
Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creator of Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne. They're all very similar to the western RPG than the traditional JRPG tbh. Not to mention of the themes and stories (Medieval and H.P. Lovecraft) of the games.
Hideo Kojima, I'm pretty sure we all know why tbh.
Personally, i think Japanese games are awesome, they're great in their own ways. But the fact that the Japanese video games used to be the highly attrative for the masses in the whole world is now, only appreciate by the gaming community... proved that the Japanese games in general, just lost touch with the world.
