well the recent sales of consoles, was actually Wii U in the lead with 47 K, and ps4 like 34 k. but hmm yeah maybe. i think when the NX launches i dont think many people will buy a Wii U. So then ps4 will take the lead, but i think splatoon and Pokken fighters next year are maybe gonna push it, also SMT x FIre emblem i guess. Japanese love that stuff. I do too ^^

No. The NX won't launch before 2017, so Wii U will stay strong in 2016 and 2017.

The Wii U wasn't strong in 2013, 2014 or 2014.

Ps4 in 2014 beat it's 2013 and ps4 in 2015 beat wii u 2014 by a lot.

Even if you just take this year and not launch aligned ps4 beat the Wii U by a huge percentage.  You're confused because we're currently going through the last 3 weeks of sales where Nintendo always gets the biggest boost because parents are buying it for their kids.

First half of this year was domination by ps4,  first half of 2016 will be no different.

Even if the Wii U stays ahead by a nose doesn't mean it held off the ps4 because the ps4 has outsold it every year since release.

I just want to point out with your ps4 in 2014 beats wii U in 2013 thing, one of them had their launch period which made it more than 50% of its sales for the year. I said period not week and even if i just say launch week that was more than 33% of its year in 2014.

You say that as if the NX will be the reason why the ps4 will pass out the Wii U.  It's obliterating it in sales every year including this year.  2016 will be the same. The ps4 is just better and is selling accordingly.

NX or no NX the ps4 is passing it out.  The reason the Wii U is ahead in Japan is because it's had a 15 month headstart and 2 extra holiday periods in that time.

This is pretty backwards. The longer it takes for the NX to launch, the more time PS4 has to catch up. And PS4 has been selling at about twice the pace of the Wii U in Japan. Following the trend, it should pass WiiU at the end of 2016 at the latest. So there's seemingly no chance of WiiU staying ahead all the way till well into 2017. But PS4 is getting much stronger with its lineups of Japanese games in 2016, while WiiU is getting weaker on that front. As for "WiiU will remainbstrong in 2017", with the lack of new game announcements, we've seen zero signs of it even having a 2017 so far. And it hasn't really been strong at all in Japan so far. Neither has PS4. The reason 2016 looks ok for WiiU is mainly due to tittles that have been delayed from 2015. But they are running out of titles to delay into 2017. Contrary to popular belief, Nintendo have announced new WiiU games an average of 16 months in advance for the first two years. Only in 2015 have we seen this number reduced to 5 months in advance, and the two latest releases were budget titles. Next up is a port of an old game (Twilight Princess) and a console port of Pokken. Both of which we knew were in the making for a long time. Nintendo have shown no signs of having anything new in development for the WiiU for some time now.

As for the OP question, it depends on how much traction the PS4 gets with its 2016 and beyond lineup, which is looking a lot better from a Japanese gamer perspective. But if not much changes in spite of that, then it may end up being very close by the time NX launches, if it launches at the end of 2016.

Dude, Nintendo said several times that they want to focus on games that are closer to the present so fans won't get mad if game XY gets delayed again etc.

Also: Did we know any 2016 titles in 2014? I don't think so (considering that Star Fox and Zelda were planned as 2015 titles).

Did we know of any 2015 titles in 2013? Zelda maybe, but that was it (XenobladeX was planned for 2014).

It's usual that we don't know titles that are launching 2 years later.

And to your point "Nintendo has shown no signs of having anything new in development for the Wii U for some time now": Eh, just one week ago Kimishima said that there are more Wii U games in development. This week we had the rumor that Nintendo Software Technology is working on a Free2Play amiibo game that is launching in Spring 2016. Back in September Miyamoto said that Pikmin 4 is close to completion (so it's likely a Wii U game).

As you can clearly see Nintendo has shiwn many signs and it is obvious that there will be many more games.

but it did like 10k units better this week in japan than ps4. PS4 is doing great in japan, but Wii U has had some nice momentums the past weeks, and soon SMT x Fire emblem releases, so that will surely push some units

In best case we can expect 2-3 more new games, maybe that Free2Play amiibo game and Pikmin 4, so definitely there will not be many more games.

So again nothing points for 2017. NX release.

Are you new to Japan sales?  Every year Nintendo gets a bigger holiday boost because it appeals to parents buying presents for their kids.  Look at the yearly gap.  Ps4 is way up.

And mark my words.  Once January hits the ps4 will go way ahead again every month.

PS4 will definitely catch up to Wii U in 2016. The NX release doesn't really matter.
