Forums - Nintendo - Is the Gamecube the new Dreamcast? No exclusives left, useless console in 2015?

This is retro gaming topic and please dont think i am talking about when the thing was launched. I am talking in terms of 2015 why you should own this console or play its games on an emulator.

I have noticed that the gamecube just like with the dreamcast is losing its exclusives

Resident Evil 1 & 0 - better versions avaible on wii and current gen platforms, next year we also get physical versions for ps4 and x1 as well.

Zelda windwaker - now on the Wii U

Zelda twillight princes - wii and now it gets the definitive version on the wii u

Metroid Prime games - Wii versions, even digital on the store

Pikimin 1 & 2 - on the wii

Yeah i am talking what pops in my head but those games are pretty much the prime games of the system. And to be honest i am glad that they come or came out for newer platforms but i just wanted it to point it out.

If you game on older console how you look at these consoles and its games? for me Xbox and PS2 are my priming platforms for 6th gen, they have so many games still not avaible anywhere else: Kuon, Onimusha trillogy, Haunting ground, Otogi series, Timespliters 1, JRPGs, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Kingdom Under Fire. So many exclsuives and nieche games. And both consoles have supirior version because Nintendo locked away the 480p support for PAL games. And for both consoles its cheaper to get games than for dreamcast and gamecube.

I am using my dreamcast only to play supirior versions of dino crisis or Resident Evil 3. And i am not going to get a gamecube since they announced Resident Evil for newer platforms or twillight princess for the wii u.

Again i am not hating. If the same woud happpen to PS2 or Xbox i would be happy so more people could experience great games like Forbidden Siren 2 or Panter Dragoon Orta so better it is. But its interresting topic

Not realy. Eventually all games will end up on modern hardware, just because there is a demand for older games, both from people that want to play them again and from people that never got them. Retro gaming is harder and harder every day, because the games just become harder and harder to find.

Also, by that argument, full backwards compatibility made the GameCube useless the moment the Wii (and Dolphin emulator for that matter) was released.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

This happens to most consoles. Classics are going to be re-released if they have an audience. I mean Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, Devil May Cry, Kingdom Hearts, Sly, God of War, Ratchet and Clank, Okami... are all examples of ps2 games that have been rereleased on other consoles. Doesn't make a console obsolete.

GC still has great exclusive games. Baten Kaitos, Star Wars Rogue leader, F-Zero, Double Dash, Melee, Sunshine, Batalion Wars, Star Fox Adventures, Super Monkey Ball, Luigi's Mansion, Eternal Darkness, Wave Race are some favorites that come to mind.

Also, it's not just exclusives that matter. I love Killer7 for example and it's a lot better on GC than on PS2. Besides, I like playing games in their original format and the Gamecube controller is awesome.

edit: multiplats most of the time also looked better on GC compared to PS2

As others have said, there's still quite a few great games on the gamecube and I prefer playing them on it rather than the Wii. Otherwise from the 6th gen I like my Xbox but have no use for the ps2... Both of mine stopped working (as did my ps1) and my PS3 plays all those games just fine anyway.

Dreamcast, in my mind, is still fun to play on and collect for, and it doesn't hurt that you can burn the games yourself. I wish I could do that for the gamecube... Seems like most games are priced as if they released earlier this year.

Going to go with no.

But if you want to use that logic then sure. But we would have to say the PS2 was made useless by the PS3 and the PS3 is being made useless by the PS4.

You still have to buy gamecube games to play them on the wii.

This logic is very laughable. All the consoles are useless then, except the last one lol.
