Forums - Gaming - Is Xenoblade Chronicles X Underrated?

You mean underrated by GOTY lists? Oh, don't pay attention to those worthless lists.

How many times will ppl throw underrated and overrated around till they understand ? Somethings ratings arent based on your personal opinion, or on any 1 persons opinion, its a consensus reached after the thing in question has been evaluated by many media outlets and consumers alike, so when the consensus is that a game is not GOTY material and you think otherwise, its you who has an opinion that diverges from the average. The same is true the other way around (when ppl call something overated).

Its OK to like or dislike something more or less than the average, but understand you opinion wont change the consensus about anything.

No doubt.

However... some releases are highly touted (or panned) by the media, only to find a different consensus view once the shine/stigma has worn off. Let's be honest; people tend to be more sober-minded about a game or movie a few months - or even years - after it is released.

Truthfully, though, my question isn't even about the reviews/ratings. I had simply noticed that, despite having a metascore equal to many of the top GOTY listers, "Xenoblade" tends to be absent from them.

Long story short: Did the late Western release kill any campaign hopes "Xenoblade Chronicles X" had? Looking at the titles that make most of those lists, it seems as though "X" would be a shoe-in for consideration - but by the time the game was released some publications were already publishing their lists, and others were a click away from publication.

EDIT: @Pavolink - kind of what I was getting at. I know that a lot of them are just fluff, but I really like to see my favorite games get some recognition, especially when they move smaller numbers than the "usual" multiplats on the list.

Well no not really game looks like it has some noticeable flaws mainly been really bad pop up and that collision clipping. Believe it not those two flaws have put me off buying it so far. I bought fallout 4 instead (on xone) and while that game can suffer from a little slow down, it's draw distance is fantastic. I think I would of prefered the odd frame rate drop but a a better draw distance and less clipping in xenoblade then 60 fps

I haven't had this much enjoyment when playing a game in decades.

Most of all I'm surprised by the reviews complaining the game is too complex/doesn't explain enough. I've never played Xenoblade nor did I look into the mechanics of this game but not once did I feel that I lacked some important information. People should try using their brain sometimes.

But I never expected the game to play a major role in the GOTY lists as most publications tend to go for the big mainstream blockbuster type of game, with a huge franchise behind it. Xenoblade might in many ways be similar to Fallout 4, it is still very niche compared to it and therefore was always going to be ignored by most media.

I don't think it's underrated, it just isn't GOTY for many critics. It doesn't break the mold or reinvent the wheel, but what it does, it does very well (a la The Last of Us)

It's rated quite high, so I don't think so

The FPS is mostly rock-solid, though, and the main element of gaming (fun) is very strong in "XCX". Both games are excellent, and I would recommend them both to any RPG fan. To be honest, I wish Bethesda would optimize their games in the direction of performance. "Fallout 4" already took flack for scaling back the graphics department, but I would much rather sacrifice some visual sparkle have a smooth gameplay experience. Bethesda's games are immersive and wonderful, but sometimes the buggy, juddering gameplay makes full-immersion in the game world and impossibility.

EDIT: I'll concede, though, that the draw-distance in "X" is pretty N64.

I can't believe it's dropped so far in the European charts. It's like they really do prefer shitty sports games over there, instead of quality RPGs.

"How dare people playing games I don't like or games that aren't for me! lol ah well they just have to play those shitty games lol why can't they have my superior taste in gaming?"

I'm not that big of a sports game gamer (last game was fifa 08 or something like that), but no, they aren't shitty, what's with gamers today calling games they don't like and play (in most cases) shit, trash, (bullshit, waste of time...ect.) ?
