Forums - General - What does [Insert family member] twice/three times/four times/etc. removed mean?

i know - i have no idea too
and what is a 2nd cousin???

Around the Network

For example you have a cousin who is your aunt's/uncle's kid. Your 2nd cousin would be the son/daughter of your father's/mother's cousin. And so on.

2nd cousin in Spanish at least, is for example your cousin's son

Here is the wiki explanation.

2nd cousin (and 3rd and so on) are your cousins kids. removed is a bit more complicated. I believe it's something to do with grandparents siblings (which would be your great aunts/uncles). Your great aunt/uncles kids would be your cousin one time removed. their kids (your cousins one time removed) would be your 2nd cousins once removed. i believe.

The "removed thing"

If your grandmom/dad has a cousin, they are your first cousin once removed.

If your great grandmom/dad has a cousin, they are your first cousin twice removed

If your great great grandmom/dad has a sister that has a cousin, they are your second cousin, once removed

Or something like that.

Basically, it's cousins of your parents when you add the whole removed thing.

First cousin twice removed: grandparents were first cousins

Ok maybe I was wrong.
