Forums - Gaming - Destiny adds $29.99 microtransaction for boost to level 25

Yeah, this sounds awful if it is true. Sounds way too much to charge to raise your character to max stats, and I feel it is kind of sad there is a pay option to max out your characters. If they want to make it easy for people to lvl up, why make the process easier, or allow an alternative option unlock things easy without having to pay? Having these sort of micro transactions in a full 60 dollar game seems outright terrible means for devs to get more money out of the players.

Good. If people are too rich and lazy for their own good I'm all down for them funding the industry.

I assume that most of this is going into their pockets.

If they've no money in their pockets they'll invest less in future games.  Again I'm glad there's this option.  It's basically a donation for rich and / lazy people

So it seems.. but its not

This is the industri testing and hole time try to  see how long they can go.. "can we get them to pay this" "what if we do this"..

How is it?  They're hardly going to say in destiny 2, congrats on reaching rank 9, pay 5 euro to reach rank 10.

Games have been doing things like this for years.  Battlefield 3 you could pay to unlock everything no matter your rank. It's fine by me.  Let these people fund future games.

Hasn't Bungie said that there won't be any microtransactions on Destiny? To be honest, that's more of a macrotransaction. I've just bough Paper Jam for the same prize lol.

This kind of stuff sucks. The only reason quick unlock stuff like this exists in an FPS like Destiny is because there is a flaw with the progression system already in place. Instead of fixing it, why don't they just capitalize on those with weak wills and disposable income? It's lazy game development.

Jesus Christ... What has gaming really come to?

At least its optional. But damn, 40 euros?! That's so greedy.

My comment is not about Destiny, Bungie or Activision.. But the industri as a hole..

And they dont use the money to fund future games.. companys only make new games if they think it make proffit.

But the point is.. Everytime some do this.. and the cash is better than the bad press.. they give it litle extra next time.

Also other companys look.. "wow they got away with that.. mayby we should do some too"

I don't see a problem. This is nothing new for MMOs, in one form or another. Most of the time, the people who buy things like this are people who have multiple characters and don't want to go through leveling up yet again.

You don't want it? Don't buy it. Problem solved.

Only if people had that perspective for every dlc in every game.

They are funding the wrong part of the industry

What's so bad about this again? Choice is bad now?

It is bad because it devalues the "normal way to achieve it". To know that you could just buy that level instead of playing the game to achieve it just doesn't feel so great (same for all games offering this stuff).

The worst case scenario would be a game like Dark Souls offering this stuff. Knowing with every death that you could simply invest some money for some level (or whaever else) would totally fuck up the fun of it.

At least for me a situation where I think "hmm, I have to invest x hours for this level which they also sell for y bucks" is something which takes some fun away of the game because I would never buy a level but investing many hours for leveling up  just feels like wasted time then.

So this option is then finally dragging people back to reality? Realising that hours of grinding is not actually fun and the only reward is bragging rights towards people who don't care about you.

I totally understand what you mean and I would even sympathize with you for the lost fun but knowing that the group who suffers most from this, namely elitist gamer dicks shitting on people who like easy modes and simple fun without challenge, I just can't.

Having a pay to win option for a Dark Souls game would give me a wonderful life time supply of salty tears.
