Both seem great, and it's too soon to tell which is best, but at least it makes a better comparison than the ffvii vs oot comparisons that dominated the n64/ps1 era. Those two had nothing in common.

That's not true. They released another footage a E3 showing 8 mn of gameplay with: Stealth, how to elaborate a strategy to kill ennemies, exploration, loot, a bit of crafting, how to tame and mount a robot, dialogs with a NPC and finally another combat with a robot (not the Tyrex, another one). http://www.gamersyde.com/news_e3_gameplay_of_horizon_zero_dawn-18007_en.html "Graphics, tough call"? Just watch the video, Horizon is a least one generation ahead of Zelda on everything. Anyways Horizon is for me the modern Zelda Ocarina of Time. It's what a modern Zelda should have being on a modern hardware. It's a new and ambitous adventure game, while recent Zelda are still the same old, same old reimagined Zeldas. |
Look at the date of that post. Also, you didn't seem to understand what i said about the graphics.
We have seen a more extensive demo at E3 but we can't really extrapolate how the world will flow. We only see one quest afterall. Gives an idea though. All in all, seems like my post still holds remarkably. I stand by it.
Except for Sales. Zelda is garanteed to sell above 2m now.
Man. Everyone is angry. But I think both games will have lots of commonness and entertain its market.

KZ/Infamous/The Order have better gameplay graphics and stories than any nintendo games in their history, and No man's sky & SFV are not Sony exclusives, take that pill yourself |
Take it easy man.
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

If Skyward Sword could get a 93 on Metacritic, then Zelda could probably slap its name on an HD collection of footage from the Iraq War and still beat Horizon.
As for sales, I'm a little less sure there. PS4 certainly will have a larger install base than the Wii U and NX combined at time of release, but if the NX sells well, then people will probably be picking up Zelda consistently too. I have trouble seeing Horizon sell more than 4 million units, however, and for Zelda to sell less than that, the NX needs to bomb really hard. I don't think it'll bomb that hard. Going Zelda here.

I honestly think Horizon has a shot of being a really excellent game, but setting the expectation as a Zelda-killer sets expectations far too high.
Horizon shows a lot of promise - but honestly, has Guerilla yet established themselves in the camp of EAD, let alone Naughty Dog? Eh...

Horizon is made by the Killzone developers, therefore I have my doubts about it´s actual quality, especially after other overhyped games that ended up disappointing like Drive Club, The Order and most recently No Man SKy.
BotW on the other hand, won quite clearly this years E3 looks like a content rich, complex and fun game. Sales potential looks also quite in its favour, since it generated more interest online and at E3 and will be a must-have buy for WiiU owners and NX early adopters and beyond.
I didn't really want to comment on this, but I felt the need to. The OP and everyone who is claiming that Horizon is a better game are all reacting to video they have seen and what they want the game to be. Zelda, however is an established game, with an established market, and every fully fleshed out iteration that they have made has been a critical success as well as a success with the market. What have we seen of Horizon besides the combat? What is the point of the game? The backstory? Where do all of the robots come from? Are there going to be puzzle elements? How did such a primitive looking tribe with primitive looking buildings, huts, and towers get such advanced weaponry? Honestly, to me, we know nothing about this game, and there is only hype.
Contrastly, Zelda was a playable title at E3 and everyone thought that it was amazing. And the area they got to explore was LITERALLY 1% of the full game area. You know there are going to be puzzle elements, you know there are going to be interesting boss battles, you know Link is going to have some awesome weapons and tools to use, you know there will be many different style dungeons to explore, and you know that it is an open world with a lot of Zelda stuff to explore. Something we have really never had before. Zelda will crush Horizon critically AND sales-wise because the Zelda team knows what they are doing, and they are really good at what they do. They push out amazing Zelda after amazing Zelda, each with a different thematic element and new twist, nobody does it like this team, and nobody ever will.

As far as I recall, only one PS4 exclusive has sold anywhere remotely near the usual Zelda numbers, and that's Uncharted 4. If Skyward Sword released on a rapidly dying system with a required peripheral and sold 4-5m, I highly doubt BotW will do any less. And I doubt Horizon will do anywhere significantly more than that number going by the general trend of PS4 exclusives. After all, if Bloodborne didn't do it, what makes Horizon so special?
You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt! I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading. After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!
Zelda got rave reviews from the players who tried it, it looks fantastic from all the streams I have watched. Nintendo hasnt failed with a single mainline Zelda game and I dont see it happen now either.
With that said, I bought a PS4 to play like 4 games and Horizon was one of them so if it turns out to beat Zelda I am very fine with that.
The two games looks great but in different ways, I think I like the art style of Zelda more but Horizon looks epic as well. It's a wash for me, but depending on what style you enjoy obviously you could pick either side.
Saleswise, I absolutely believe Zelda is going to strike gold. I have guessed they will sell 10+ million because of all the NX and Zelda hype alone. It's going to be bundled and obviously most people are going with that bundle unless something else fantastic is released as well. Also, game releases on two platforms. I cant see Horizon sell that much to be honest...
Hoping for two great games with success for both!
