Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Patent Shows Freeform Display For (NX?) Controller/Portable

The problem with "virtual buttons" is how are you supposed to know what you're pressing if you're not looking down at the controller entirely?

There has to be physical buttons otherwise I don't see how functional this could be.

People can live without that feed back... but yeah being able to "feel" the button locations your pressing without looking down is one of the reasons controllers have physical buttons.

I bet this will also make it really weird to go from 1 game, where buttons layout is typical, to one where its not.

I swear Nintendo is filling patents just to troll us simple forum dwellers.

Signature goes here!

WTF? does this mean they re doing away with physical buttons on their controller?

Time for the nintendo controller thats actually just a touch screen? >_>'

This is going to flop, alot of people really like the "feel" of a controller in their hands,

and haveing actual buttons to press is something most wont settle for not haveing.

*edit:  I like the concept and the idea & design options this gives though... im kinda torn on it atm.

Im not a fan of the gamepad as a controller either, but could use it if I had too in some games.

However if this gives more buttons, or enables better gameplay due to more buttons ect, I can see the reasoning for removeing physical buttons.

Oh, because "haveing" actual buttons give you "alot" more accuracy? I imagine your computer keyboard has buttons, unless you've been "removeing" them, and it hasn't helped with your accuracy.

I like this concept. Also, Zeruda!

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

I doubt Nintendo will go with a design with the buttons on the screen. Just by placing your fingers you'll be blocking a big part of the screen, it's not a good design and it's not practical.

What in the world am I looking at...?

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I remember speculation was on about a gamepad using such tech to be more tablet like.

Im starting to think that the NX will have different controllers. And you just choose which one best suits you.

Pocky Lover Boy!

I just want my buttons and rolling triggers :v
