Forums - Gaming - Why haven't microsoft solved cross play yet?

Windows 10 was supposed to fix everything!

Rocket league is coming to xbox one (YAY!) with no cross play (Boo!)

Paragon is coming to PS4 with cross play. Epic have always floated their boat closer to xbox than ps, so it is quite a surprise that paragon will not release for what is basically an established 'Epic' fanbase.

Microsoft were meant to make it seamless for third parties. But outside of ms first party & a couple sidescroller indies (which i love btw) there aren't any xbox one<->pc cross play games, phil made a huge deal out of this for the launch of windows 10 and all the events he went to.

Sony even has street fighter cross play. Are microsoft being restrictive once again with third parties because it doesn't make any sense :@

They solved it years ago with Shadowrun on the Xbox 360. Hell, Dreamcast "Solved it" with Quake III. They just don't support it.

Didn't they always strive for the worst online experience? I mean seriously, with that stance they pretty much ruined Rocket League for anyone who wanted to play on Xbox.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

imo, PC gamers have the advantage with controls for most games. Better graphics = better draw distance and lots of other things.

(144Hz monitor with a game running over 120fps (even better with Lightboost) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 60fps ) x100

Its hard for me to play my console games as I am so used to 144Hz PC monitor, so choppy and slow.

Pretty sure Fable Legends is cross-platform so we can assume the PC will not have any advantage control-wise and graphically.

Does not bother me one bit. As long as the player base is there, what is the purpose. Very few people would benefit from it.

I'd like to see games supporting cross platform play between Microsoft and and Sony consoles... which brings up a question since I've never known the answer; Was Final Fantasy XI cross platform between either of the three platforms, those being PC, PS2 and X360?

But if they were more open with cross platform, we could have a game made where one team is purely XBOX players, the other Playstation players, it could even be a take on the "console wars" and every week it'd have a leaderboard showing which the best console is to encourage fanboys to play more and make their console the best, lol.

if its a shooter, you already know that XBO pad is gonna put in the extra work ;0

That would be cool, maybe one day.

I probably has something to do with Xbox Live

Paragon is PS4 because Xb one has Smite, while PS4 doesn't have a MOBA yet. MOBAs are a very new thing to consoles and for the time being I'm not sure if one console can successfully support 2 MOBAs. Crossplay for Paragon seems like a significant disadvantage to PS4 given controllers are considerably inferiour to KB+M MOBAs of all varieties, so if you're going to play Paragon reasonably seriously on PS4 I would think it best to get a KB+M for your PS4. Also vital important for crossplay is 60fps, solid. If PC has a significant base fps advantage over console then that puts console players at a further significant disadvantage. It could possibly be that Epic was unable to hit 60fps as a benchmark with the quality of visuals it's trying to achieve.

Rocket league is best played with a controller, so it's more of an even playing field. Fighters are also controller based games so crossplay makes sense there too.

My guess is MS does not want PS and Xb gamers to play on the same playing field, so it's only willing to consider crossplay support for console exclusives. What I wonder is how much of a pain it would be to set up walled off crossplay where Xb one gamers can only crossplay with PC gamers and PS4 gamers can only crossplay with PC gamers. I imagine with ranked competitions you actually want a single playing environment for PC players so segregated crossplay would not be good for online games with ranked competition.

The closest we've gotten to cross-consoles cross platform play is some asynchronous multiplayer pool game on wii and ps3. But xbox gotta start solving whatever issues are holding back third parties from connecting to at the very least pc
