I got GTA3, and after switching off trailing, it looks great. Controls are still hard as nails, but the game is bringing back great memories.

I will get the other two GTA games shortly.

Yeah I think it's called trailing... it's some motion effect on the graphics, looks horrible. Switch it off in the settings and it looks pretty good.
