So yeah people, the PSX stream is still live and going and they are still showing new info, footage and announcements. |
I watched it. He said its a mix. But the ATB bar is there. The question is how many real time elements there will be. Is it just the characters auto-attacking instead of standing there? Does the AI take their turns automatically? Does it wait for our input, but obviously the action won't pause.
What seems clear is that they are doing what they should. They are trying to evolve the ATB system and not do away with it and make an ARPG ala FFXV.

Hard to say how this is all going to streamline together, but maybe that was after a manual input attack, then the player switched to Barret. Either way, gotta look out for a confirmation from SE. |

Part of the ATB I like and will always like is the strategy in FF7 (8, 9, X etc). I mean when you go into a random match you have to strategise, put protective spells on you, move position (I presume long range will nolonger exist as a gameplay feature :P). In FF12, you didn't have to do this as you could buff yourself before battle and with FF13 I didn't feel like there was any strategy as it as all too heckic and quick.
Hmm, pie.

I hope those people keep saying that after they realise it isnt an ARPG.

A good observation, I wonder if it will be like the character actions are done by you but you don't have direct control. So you say 'Attack' and they do, flashy animation and all. MAybe there is no AI and the secondary character's actions are inputted by you. Each AI character would have to know how to use each and every combination of magic if it's placed on them, if Barret has heal, he should know when to use it. If Tifa has Lightning and you fight a robot the character should know to use it. The best way for all of that to happen is if we are the ones telling them directly in battle.
I will say the movement, areas and graphics look exactly as expected.
Hmm, pie.

Look at the defend command. That's not what CC has. It has its own button reserved to it and theres no ATB bar. It could be like CC but it doesnt make sense with the footage. Big attacks are beeing launched when the bar is full, wich sugests it is an ATB bar. The limit break bar is to the right in case you think thats it.

For the most part it was decent, except Wedge. You can't really expect them to have all the mannerisms of people from the West or Europe. Japan is an overly polite society and they use ATB when talking so as to not interrupt somebody else's turn. :)
It's just how the Japanese do.

I atually love FF12's battle system and would love a new FF to adapt it and improve on it. But it didn't really remove the strategy element as buffing and such is not permanent and usually wears off in between battles and many challenging enemies removes such buffs as well. So it's actually more challenging that way as you have to think quicker and know when is the best time to cast such buff. I'm sure while FF7R could possibly be more real time and more action oriented, it will still implement a great system of strategizing. Yoshinori Kitase himself said so. So let's wait until they showmore footage that focuses on the gameplay.
