Forums - Gaming - Forbes: Sony Unlocked 7th core to Settle Internet Debates

"In that, with this new core available for development it means that on paper the PS4 is again more powerful than the Xbox One."

I laughed at this sentence

Didn't you know it's just because of lazy devs that most games run at a lower resolution and worse framerates on the XB1 (even after the 7th core was freed)? It's obvious isn't it? Surely you didn't buy into the silly hardware specs?

The PS5 Exists.

Oh dear; "Lazy devs". I hate when I see people use this as an excuse. If they were lazy they would never want to make a game... ever! Call them anything but lazy, I have.... haha

It seems a little odd to claim it's a PR move when Sony themselves were almost silent about it. There is nothing new about a console manufacturer freeing up resources, and this won't be the last time it happens for either the PS4 or X1.

So Sony put the entire R&D Team or what not to unlock this core to please internet fanboys?

Seems legit Forbes.

Putting all their money into the "internet wars".... for some "internet money!" Wise investment, the turnaround has been a success.

On paper it will be aprox 17% more power, but how much of that you can translate to real performance benefit is hard to tell. It all depends how fast the system can feed the CPU,and whether it will be at the expense of the GPU. That depends how fast the cache memory can operate to feed them both. It will no doubt be an improvement, but not 17%.

Good point, Sony were completely silent. That point alone is enough to discount the whole piece. God.... where do they get these people?!

Another gem from forbes. 95% of their articles are terrible.

Well, if that is the case why not some GDDR5 on the side? Would be great for those open worlds...

I have some inclination that it is for VR though.

Getting sick and tired of the useless comparisons to PS2 when it comes to hardware. The PS2 didn't demolish everyone despite being weak, it won because it was the only viable option for gamers at that point. Coming from the back of the PS1 juggernaught probably also had something to do with its success.

Nowadays we have so many entertainment options that it's simply not enough to deliver a certain amount of content. It's about leading in pretty much all fields to be the most viable option. If the PS4 had a bad interface, only a few apps, no bluray and weaker hardware than X1 it wouldn't matter if it had 10 times as many great games because it would've died at launch.
