Naturally I'd hope they back off the amiibo junk for their next mainseries entry after they gave us two mediocre games created only to sell amiibo. They're not gonna do that obviously, so I atleast expect amiibo intergration to be of the Mario Maker variety, for example scanning in an amiibo gives you special furniture based off that character or it's franchise, but there's still other ingame ways to obtain amiibo furniture. As for your idea, I think the main issue asside from cost and hassle is the look of your ingame character is changeable. You may like one outfit one day, but decide you like another better the next. You could also just like a bunch of different outfits. I do like the transfering your villager to friend's system feature, but that should be accessible with any Animal Crossing amiibo.
