I was raised in the NES days. 8-bit graphics, controllers that hurt your hands, not being able to save, insane difficulty and short games.

I've seen every gen since the third and been very active. Right now (despite the leap in power) is a fantastic time to be a gamer!!

Been there since the ZX spectrum 48k days, through Atari 2600 right up to present day console gaming. I have gamed on most systems and Im happy playing modern or retro games. In fact I went from Arkham Knight to Mario 64 the other day, and the latter felt just as fresh and exciting. I will try any type of game/genre and even games rated mediocre and graphics (although it is nice to have amazing looking games) aren't a priority for me as long a s a game controls well and is functional. Long live gaming, a fantastic hobby I will never tire of.

Gaming was best in 1996-2006.

Do you mean what kind of games were released in this time or the industry in general were better for you in this time?

There was more variety and fun. For example I like SSX. PS2 era had 4 good to great SSX games. PS3 era had just one, late in the cycle and it wasn't even good.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

It's actually very easy to look at the positive side of gaming when I'm playing with my PS4. I just turn my head left to my PC corner.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I do miss the pre-MOBA days for PC gaming. That genre is never going to die and will always be the most popular PC genre until the end of time.

this gen has been my favorite since the snes for sure. i love my ps4 soo much and the indies are a big part of that. we have so much choice in gaming now and i love it. i just feel sorry for the snobs that refuse to play anything that isn't AAA and 1080/60fps with absolute perfection of network code.

For me it was best in N64 era because I was a kid n loved having all weekender benders on goldeneye, turok 2, perfect dark etc. I sure it's great for young kids now with COD, Destiny etc but I wouldn't know cos I'm an old git now with no time to Game :(

This gen is alright, and it is a good time to be a gamer. But if you think this gen touches the 6th gen (PS2/Gamecube/Dreamcast/Xbox) you're insane. Tons of quality games and libraries on the worst selling consoles (Dreamcast/Gamecube) would rival the PS4s library (so far) this gen. Keeping in mind Dreamcast only had a 2 year lifespan worldwide.

Same with Snes and Genesis.

I'd say this is the forth best time to be a gamer (after 7th gen).

Definitely good to be positive, and I like sticking with a few great games rather than having a lot of games.. so yes, 8th gen is good, and now is a good time as ever :p

more fun? ok I can see that but more variety? Do you really think so?

Yes variety is lacking big time. For example I like arcadey racing games - what can you suggest for me so far in current gen?... But copy paste action games and shooters, those are not lacking.
