Forums - Gaming - What a great time to be a gamer!

Yes I know, there are definitely a few (many) things wrong with gaming today for example unfinished games, rushed games that are released and some of them aren't fixed or rather fixed with gigabyte patches. DLC that's increasing, some games even put story elements behind DLC (Asura I'm looking at you) and No, amibos aren't justified because you get a dust collector (but that's just my opinion^^) and I'm glad developers are called out for that.

But why can't we also look a little bit more on the positive side of gaming today?

(also compared to the past)

We have AAA games, AA games, A games, we have indie developer, games that are possible because of kickstarter (some of them failed but many of them reach their strechtgoal and are made/published). Sony, Nintendo and MIcrosoft in competition producing games like Scalebound, Bloodborne and Bayonetta to make their console attractive to gamers.

Porting games is easier, japanese games are released on pc ----> pc games are realeased on consoles because it isn't that difficult anymore.

So many genre that exist today you can choose from that are made because their is a audience for them (like games in the range from Skyrim to GTA to Tales of to Heavy Rain to Mario and so on.....)

Why are there so many threads or discussion on the internet in forums how that is bad or this and that was so much better in the past without saying what so great is about todays gaming? So many discussion about the bad things and so little discussion about the good things.

Conclusion:

Don't just look at the bad things and get depress or say how good gaming was in the past compared to today also look at the positive.

Questions:

Do you agree or disagree?

Am I exaggerating?

What do you like about todays gaming what do you dislike?

(and why is hentai the best thing that happened to gaming?)

With how you start this thread and what you write, it doesn't quite sound like a good time to be a gamer. : X

Though, I agree that people focus too much on the bad and forget how much good there is. It's been a good time to be a game almost all the time. People just focus on the bad, though there have been some legit bad things happening that should not be overlooked.

I was raised in the NES days. 8-bit graphics, controllers that hurt your hands, not being able to save, insane difficulty and short games.

I've seen every gen since the third and been very active. Right now (despite the leap in power) is a fantastic time to be a gamer!!

Ha, that didn't even come to my mind but it's a bit correct how I started with the bad things.

I grew up in the 8-bit graphic days as well and I think we're actually the lucky ones that got to experience the changes it's became today.

It's unfortunate that some newer kids these days can't handle trying to play a retro game due to the fact that the graphics aren't great (even though it was at the time) and will never appreciate why they were so amazing.  *Respect to the new kids that are willing to play the old school games.

But honestly, I think any time is a great time to be a gamer. I've enjoy each generation with what it had/has to offer =)

Haha, soo true! I think people who grew up with the industry are the luckiest x ) I got to see and grow with it from the NES onward, and wow, was it such a great time, getting my mind blown with every new gen.

Right there with you.  I refuse to be blinded by nostalgia.  There have been so many positive advances to gaming over the generations that I can't imagine going back.  People forget about blowing into cartridges and wiggling them around, hoping that this time the game would work, or game-breaking bugs that could not be patched away, or how many garbage games were made.  I had fun back then, without doubt, but the improvements in technology have allowed game-play to evolve and grow.  For example, the first FPP games I played gave me a splitting headache and made me feel sick, now they're among my favorites.

There are so many upcoming titles I'm looking forward to playing.  I'm pleased with where gaming is at right now.

Gaming was best in 1996-2006.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

Gaming is better now than its ever been, I think gamers whine too much these days. Look at how awesome open world games have become, GTAV, Fallout 4, MGSV, Xenoblade Chronicles X to name but a few.

Do you mean what kind of games were released in this time or the industry in general were better for you in this time?
