Its about games. A 9th gen console that plays 8th gen games deosnt fall in the 9th gen. Easy answer.

But PS4 and X1 spent a whole year and  playing mostly 7th gen games. The only next gen exclusives were 1st party which Nintendo will of course have alongside a few third party exclusives.

The question you should be asking is whether it'll play 9th gen games, something we won't know until PS4/X1 become technologically obsolete.

while technically 8 , feels like a 7.5 to most people
unless Nintendo puts in significantly advanced tech
which i doubt they would

Nice joke. Apart from cross gen games PS4 / Xbox One had its share in next gen games.

No one gave a damn about Wii U except western developers (yet people bash Ubisoft for supporting Wii U). Japanese developers supported PS4 / Xbox One and even PC. Same will happen with NX.

It wont be lucky enough to play 8th gen games let alone 9th games. They either have to go to future to bring 9th gen games like FIFA 20 in 2016. Or wait for third party developers to show mercy.

if its only as powerfull as the P4, its just a 8th gen thats late to the party, imo.

It will be looked at as 8.5. Can the NX survive from 2016 through the next generation when PS and XB come out? I don't think so. It's either terminated faster. Or the NX gets into the Wii U position now. Under powered. Loses future 3rd party games. Say NX becomes peachy. Gets GTA VI. It won't get GTA VII for what's going on now.
