Forums - Nintendo - Is the Wii U finally getting a $50 price cut?

Went to the Nintendo website and saw that the new Smash Splat Wii U Bundle is priced at $249.99, with it coming soon to retailers.  Does this mean that the Wii U will officially be getting a price cut when this bundle is released or is there another explaination?

It could be a price cut, or could be just a temporary deal for black friday.This is one thing that we will need to wait and see what happens.But it is great nevertheless that the price is lower now, with 2 excellent games, for the black friday.If someone is in the fence, this is the moment to buy a Wii U.Who knows, maybe a retailer can make an ever better deal in black friday.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I hope this is the case.

Considering they're bundling two big hits, a $50 discount would definitely help move some units.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

What the!? It's the same price as the Wii...with $120 worth of games!!! Nintendo has to be taking a gut punch with this one. But, Black Friday is weeks away and it's up for sale now. It's probably a permanent drop.

I think this is an X1-styled price cut. It's promoted as a "temporary" pricecut through the holidays. It goes up in price for a single week in January, and then the official permanent pricecut is announced.

Oh, and Meijer has this bundle for $220 on Black Friday btw.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

@fleischr

I'm hoping since there's no mention of a temporary price cut on Nintendo's website for the bundle that it's more of a permanent one. However, there hasn't be an official announcement by Nintendo, so I can see why you would think this and are most likely correct. Even if it's just for the holidays, hopefully at this price, it can help the Wii U sell more units.

I was wondering about that as well.  But then I saw that these packages have the retailers already listed, which tells me those are the current bundles. Whereas the other one has a "Coming soon" sign on the Retailers section.

Yeah, I saw these bundles as well.  So, what sayest thou concerning the new Smash Splat bundle being listed at $249.99?  Maybe it's just for the holidays like some of the others have been saying?
