Due to their scope and size, development teams are split into smaller teams that work on individual parts. This in turn usually results in games that lack in coherence. Open world games boast with lots of content, but so much of it is utterly forgettable. |
Exactly what I came here to say. I've played a relatively small number of open world games (Fallout 3 + NV, a couple of the GTA games, I've watched my partner play a lot of The Witcher games) and they generally seem to suffer from being "jack of all trades, master of none". It's not that they've looked bad, exactly, but they've had lots of chunks that felt merely adequate and not a whole lot that felt like it was truly great.

Yeah, no. I agree with you... they can write a good story and develop the characters well, it's like you said, a matter of taste (and for my taste I didn't find the story compelling, it was boring for me). That's what I tried to say, maybe I expressed myself badly.
Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I like open world games, because they give you freedom to do a lot of things as you like.
Linear games are great too, but I don't think I'll get burnt out for either.. :/

The Witcher 3 was fantastic, loved it.
Dying Light was ok, it was fun. not great though.
Mad Max sucked big time. sad, because it showed so much promise.
generally i am a big fan of open world games (when done right). but i also love some linear games as well. it really all depends on the quality of the game.

i like the fantasy worlds like dragon age, skyrim etc, haven't bought witcher 3 yet
i would like to have co-op for games like elder scrolls.dragon age type worlds not like an mmo style but drop iin/out co-op where you can join a friends game or vice versa
