Aonuma spent as much time talking about Wind Waker as he did the original Zelda as a point of comparison for the new game.

I'd like to hear more about Aonuma "talking about the classic Zelda games to hype people up" for PH, ST, and SS. That doesn't sound familiar to me. I recall this being a more recent trend, specifically beginning around the time Link Between Worlds was revealed, for obvious reasons. You yourself said of the game, "This is a Zelda game that cuts most of the nonsense that has infested the series and moves the formula back to what it originally was," which is why I linked to your thread. It sounds like you felt the game delivered on its promise of a classic Zelda experience -- the recycled overworld from ALTTP was actually one of your complaints, so it's not the positive influence from a classic you now make it out to be. Now you call the final product "wishy-washy" and say "there isn't any reason to believe that he will deliver what he promised this time either," as though LBW didn't even come close to living up to your expectations.

Just savage.

No. How many Zelda games even break 5 million?

Four of them have done so - two of them, for single SKUs, have broken 7 million. Twilight Princess, between Wii and GC, sold 8.74 million copies.

Wow, that's a pretty intense discussion between Rol and dengle and a very interesting one!

OP: I doubt the next Zelda will sell more than 8m copies even if it launches with the NX; I think you need to remember that Zelda TP launched with the über-popular Wii. If Zelda U is to achieve similar numbers, the NX itself needs to do remarkably well (and that most likely means it has to be a hybrid like the Fusion rumours have it)

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I have my doubts... . if its wii u only theres just no way.

That's the problem with this prediction.

And I don't see it ported to NX either. It worked with Twilight Princess because Hardware wise the Wii was just a superclocked Gamecube. This can't be the case for NX as the CPU will change, necessiting massive chanes in coding. So, porting the game will cost a lot of time and manpower, 2 things Nintendo doesn't even have enough at hand right now, and surely not by NX release either. And since Nintendo hasn't even made one single Remaster (as this is what a port to NX really would boil down to) of it's previous Gen console (WWHD was 2 gen) since the GBA, I doubt they will do so then. A Virtual Console version might be possible if NX is strong enough to emulate the Wii U properly, but we never get sales figures of these, so...

If it is indeed ported to NX, of course. Ok I really want to make a bold prediction about my favorite game series.

I believe it's a lock that the game will sell at the very least 3m+ on Wii U, leaving less than 5m on NX to achieve the mark. Console Zelda games usually sell pretty well, but not THAT much, with Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time being the only ones to reach 8m+.

So... Can it? Will it?

IF it is on NX, it'll sell that well, you say? I find that dubious.

But I will say, it CAN sell very well, regardless, if it lives up to it's potential. If it is what they've vaguely hinted it could be, a more open type of game similar to the first Zelda on NES, then that could indeed be a game a LOT of people would want. It could be THE defining game of the Wii U, in my opinion (something the console still honestly lacks).

Can't see it. I doubt it will even be released on the NX.

The more I hear about how Nintendo wants to eliminate waste the more I am convinced the NX is one part hardware and another part service. We can safely assume they are bridging the console and handheld market. I think apart of that may in fact be a cloud streaming service to the system while in console mode or able to download games to the portable unit or stream over wifi. This would greatly expand the user base of people who are faithful to the handheld side of the market but never bought the home condole. Because of this Zelda will exceed 10 million life time sales easily because there will no longer be a wall between home and handheld libraries.

We can assume most of the people who own a wii u are most likely going to buy an NX. As such, sales wouldn't vary too heavily regardless of whether it is a wii u exclusive or not. I'm going to say that it won't reach 6 million, let alone 8

If it comes to the NX, yes. It worked with TP, and it can work again. If it doesn't come, no. If Zelda U stays WiiU exclusive, the better question is: will Nintendo make a profit out of Zelda U? I'm sure they have spent a decent amount on the game.

You know it deserves the GOTY.
