Forums - Nintendo - Would you say that Nintendos deep dive into DLC this gen has been "Classy"?

Those complaints become valid only when Nintendo locks meaningful content behind Amiibos. So, Hyrule Warriors for one amiibo, Splatoon in a way and Shovel Knight. Everything else is something that nobody would call relevant, like MK8's mii costumes.

Others would justify the Splatoon Amiibos by saying that there was enough free content to counteract it, blah blah blah, but that's not me. As soon as Nintendo locks a dungeon behind the Zelda U Amiibos or something, I'll get mad, but you're just complaining for the sake of it with the it just sounds like amiibo DLC we currently have.

He complaining just for the sake of it? He never does that...

Thankfully you are there to defend them, no matter how wrong they are. That's why you are my soulmate.

Nintendo makes a nice swan dive with Mario Kart 8, 9/10, followed by nice butterfly strokes with Splatoon, free Hyrule Warriors dlc, and Mario Maker, and then belly flops with Fire Emblem, Smash Bros, and priced Hyrule Warriors dlc. o:

^This. Except the last Hyrule Warior part. Haven't looked into that one.

It's decent O: Not too bad, but not cheap either. Kinda falls in the middle.

I bought all the dlc together for 15$, we are talking about 200 hours of content. I don´t know how much cheaper could be.

15? I thought it was 20... Actually, it is 20 for the NA. It does come with a lot, but 20 seems a but steep for me. O:

15 euros here, so like 18$ maybe, similar price. But the thing is, like you say, it comes with a whole ton of content, even Jim Sterling made a Jimquisition chapter praising the Hyrule Warriors dlc, I agree that FE and Smash have overpriced dlc, but not Hyrule Warriors.

Yeah, that's why I said it falls in the middle. It's not bad, but still not the best either, at least compared to MK8. Though at 15 USDs, I would seriously bite...

It's been alright, some games have been better than others.

MK8 DLC was done nicely, though I think Smash DLC was a little messy.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

My thoughts exactly xD ehh atleast we get xenoblade chronicles X dlc day one instead of payibg like in japan

They could be doing it even better, but yeah... I would say their approach is "classy", since it's still much better than 99% of other options.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

It hasn't been perfect for every game.

But in general, I like that most DLC content genuinely has been NEW content NOT already on-disc, and that they haven't taken to nickle-and-diming the fans. I hope they stick to that approach.

They're as good/bad as anyone else.

Know what I love about their DLC? Usually won't change much.

Sure, Fire Emblem was a disappointment(though that will probably change in the next game), the way they established DLC was great.

Smash bros didn't deserve DLC hate- I mean, who the hell is going to buy every costume? No one! that's the point! More variety for your preference. yeesh.

Mario Kart did have 8-16 dollar DLC, but it was worth it. 3 new characters, 8 new tracks, and new karts for that amount is 100% worth it.

Edit: Oh, and Amiibo's are the same thing with Smash. You don't need them to enjoy all the game's content in the first place. Just preferences.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

I thought Mario Kart and Hyrule Warriors were very well-priced for the amount of content provided, and I'd gladly jump in on similar deals in the future.

I wasn't a big fan of Smash Bros' DLC...but I am grateful they offered invidividual items rather than force me to buy a bundle of things I don't care for (Lucas, amiibo costumes, etc).

I didn't bother with most of the Fire Emblem Awakening DLC, despite me being a huge FE fan. It was all bonus material, and the few packs I played didn't really compel me to keep buying content. At the same time, since it was all supplemental material, I had no problem skipping it either.

I haven't played Fates yet, but I'm sure I'll end up buying every story-path. My stance will be based on how long the individual stories last, though what I've read so far leads me to believe they'll be on par with past handheld titles, so I have no reason to complain currently.

So far, my experience with Nintendo's foray into DLC has been positive. Like has said been said earlier though, this could easily change, but there's been enough positive examples for me to be optimistic.

I'm most concerned with what they'll do next gen DLC wise. Right now they're just trying to keep people playing the Wii U, so they're giving away a lot of free content. Will they do the same if, say, the NX takes off and they hit those Wii era profits, or will they milk the hell out of us? There's no precedent for us to really go by on that front, and in many peoples' eyes they've done a bit of both.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!
