Sons of bitches! If they're making so much money from PC gamers, why are their ports always garbage?

DRM

How strict is the DRM?

I guess I've been lucky.  I had no trouble at all with Far Cry 3 and the Uplay client gave me no problems.  I liked getting in-game rewards, too.  I remember thinking that I wish Steam was a less of a pain in the ass.

For me it's just Ubisoft giving me too much of a hassle to play their games, I just want them to either sell on Steam and not require me using their client or simply shape up their client and only sell their games on there (really I just want them to sell on Steam more than anything to prevent a fractured library).

For me Steam isn't as much of a hassle as Uplay is for me, I can navigate and find what I need on there as well as them offering a lot of content that Ubisoft is unlikely to supply (like extensive profile creation, badges, wallpaper modifcations to your profile, Steam like sales, refund system, user reviews, mod workshop and general supporting for modding in general, ability to sort your games into different sub categories of your choosing etc).

Hardware checks for some of their games mean you can only swap your PC's hardware a limited amount of times before the game is locked and you having to call Ubisoft support to give you access to your games to prove it's you and not someone else. No other client really does that, not anymore if they had.

Also they sell their games on Steam, you download and install them from Steam but once you launch their games they will require you install Uplay in order to continue playing the game, no one else does this either, EA took their games home with them off Steam and sell on their own client, Ubisoft are the only ones that Sell and require you to use their DRM from another DRM client.

(SOme older titles do not require Uplay though but all the ones from Assassins Creed 3/Revelations onwards do).

Reminds me of this.

Personally, I don;t feel safe buying Ubi games on PC, so I actually haven't even seriously considered doing it... besides Rayman Legends. Such a great game.

I'm not concerned of safety when it comes to Ubisoft. WHat I really dislike is their crap support towards their ports in general. Their DRm is basically giving PC gamers the double finger since they sell their titles on Steam but also their own store to reap whatever profit they can grab, the underyling result for gamers is that if you buy the game on Steam and proceeed to launch the game, the game will still tell you that you need to install and run Uplay to which their DRM then decides it wants you to download the game again (happened to me on two different setups and different games) or update the game via it;s own servers despite it being done on Steam.

I honestly just hate their client because it does nothing that the other ones outt ehre have already accomplished and done so in better ways, Uplay just looks and acts like a sub standard client, their Uplay rewards program is also a shell of it;s former self and their recent rebranding of the name Uplay to "ubisoft club" isn't doing them any favours and it hasn't changed drastically either.

The only way they will ever get me back on board with them is that they sell their games on Steam that don't require Uplay and give us decent top quality ports, or take their ball and go home with it like EA did with Origin but also vastly improve their client and make it stand apart from the rest, also giving us top quality ports.

Until then they've got no dice with me and I;m not going to falter either (haven't for quite a while now). The new ANNO game came out and while it looks good it will require Uplay and it's not really facing stellar reviews either and seems to have done away with what made the last Anno good so there's that for me to consider.

Ah, I forgot about the infamous UPlay client. I have heard that lots of people had, and still have, major issues with it. The one time I've used it, it was alright -- besides being an annoyance and a waste of resources when the Steam client is already running.  I really dont get why they find the need to run Uplay ON TOP of Steam. :/ Should be either/or.

I've...actually never heard of Anno. A quick Google shows it as a long running RTS series. Surprised I haven't heard of it, as my older brothers(and by extension, me) were really into those while I was growing up.

Yeah that sucks

It's kinda hard to pin ANNO, it;s like Sim city in a way but with a slight bit of combat. The latest one does look nice and even has you creating cities/factories on the Moon itself.

I just hope they do a complete revamp of their cleint and finally decide whether to take their ball and go home with their games or ramp up their client but let us launch our bought games from Steam and not both.

You sure you are not confusing SecuROM for being uplay? As far as I know Uplay doesnt have a hardware limitation on how many installs you can do - thats SecuROM which is pretty much a dead DRM right now. Only a handful of games still have the DRM and the ones that had it were removed in the past 2-3 years (i.e. Batman Arkham, Borderlands, etc).

Also I wish EA still sold their games on Steam - I wouldnt mind using Origin with Steam lol - had no conflicts with any of the 3 DD clients.

I wish EA sold their games on Steam but I;m actually glad they didn't pull a Ubisoft and require us to launch two forms of DRM to play just one game.

I'd ideally want Ubisoft to sell their games on Steam and not require the use of Uplay, their older games don't require it and it was fine back then.
