Forums - Gaming - Personal Opinion: I am glad America is taking over the gaming industry again.

I honestly enjoyed more before when everything was balanced, but at least it looks like Japanese games are making a comeback. European studios keep growing as well and indies come from every place (latin america to asia).

But in the end I don't really care for the origin of a game... like everyone said, what matter is if it's great.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Got to disagree, it's not a cultural thing or liking one country more than the other for me, but I just prefer games from Japan most of the time

Currently most hyped for: FFXV and Zelda U

Rockstar is American btw, it's based in New York City...

Is the nationality issue about where games devs and studio are located or where the companies headquaters are based? Are Retro studios' games japanese because the stuidos owned by Nintendo?

I like Japanese games more

Western developers in general have been leading the way now in the industry for the past decade, whether it's console, PC, or mobile gaming. The only exception to this has been Nintendo's Wii, which took the world by storm in 2006 but eventually went out with a whimper a mere 6 years later.

The American gaming crash of 83 is not relevant to those outside of the US. Just saying.

While not directly, it did have widespread repercussions throughout the industry and around the world.  For example... Nintendo originally had a tentative agreement with Atari to market the original Famicom in North America, but that deal fell through because Atari lost too much money in the '83 crash.  Nintendo's notoriously strict licensing policies during those days were also a direct result of the '83 crash after the market was flooded with low-quality and in some cases unlicensed titles.

There's certainly a lot of Japanese influence at Retro. As for Rockstar, what games do they make? Parodies about crime life in big American cities.

No, but it does show that the movie industry is dominated by Americans/American culture, just like the gaming industry. How popular is Yakuza compared to GTA?
